Easiest Way to Gain Improved Grab?
« on: November 26, 2011, 06:06:55 PM »
I'm wanting to give a half-troll girallon Improved Grab (or equivalent) without too much of a CR increase.  Surreal's List of Stuff doesn't have an entry for Imp Grab, and the best I could come up with was the Feral template for +2 CR.  A half-troll girallon can't qualify for Feral (but handwaiving that isn't an issue - I'm creating this for my campaign).

Are there any other options via feats or low-CR increasing templates?

The Grappling Vine plant graft from Magic of Eberron (p 135). Not sure how that would affect CR and treasure, though. You could also use a magic item that negates an AoO X/day, if one of your PCs would like that sort of thing.

Sandstorm has the Scorpion's Grasp feat.  The prerequisites are Str 13, Improved Unarmed Strike, and Improved Grapple.  I think the base Girallon has just enough feats to take that chain.  The character can initiate grapples from any unarmed strike or a strike with a light or one-handed weapon.  I'm fairly certain natural attacks will work with this.

Good to know.  Sadly it won't work for my purposes as I'm also giving him the Rock Hurling and Fling Enemy feats (the goal is for him to grab people and then toss them off a cliff).  Improved grab is just to make the grapple easier/quicker.
