How vital is darkstalker for anyone who wants to sneak in any capacity?

Only if sneaking is your "thing".  If you just want to sneak around on occasion, just ranks in H/MS will probably suffice.  Most Blindsight/Blindsense/Tremorsense are in the 30'-120' range, so if you stay far away then you're fine.  You're only screwed if you want to do "combat scale" sneakery.

It's a bit campaign dependent, honestly.  If you're primarily facing humanoids or giants, it's probably skippable.  Same if you are primarily facing creatures with Mindsight (mind flayers and aboleths).

In most cases though, you want it.  If you are facing any good variety of enemy types, you want it.
