Great Undead Leadership Cohort?
« on: December 03, 2011, 02:41:35 AM »
I'm looking for something pretty cool for an undead cohort. I'm pretty much settled on using a ghost but I'm having a little trouble deciding if I want to go the most accepted way for ghosts (Master of the Unseen Hand, I'm looking at you) or something slightly different like Psion or something else that could be pretty cool (if it's viable).

I know there has been plenty of threads all over the place for this topic but none recently and none that I can find that are open to almost all of 3.5 (Forgotten Realms may or may not be in, I'll have to ask the GM if something particularly nice is there and I've overlooked it) and Pathfinder.

So I'd love to see your ideas on this!

P.S. ~ My Undead Leadership Score is 30 but I'm only level 14 so that means the cohort has to be 12 which leaves 7 levels to play with as a ghost :S

One idea I had overnight was that the ghost could be of a kyton [CR 6, which would bring the total to 11] (hell if I know how that works since they're bodies and souls are one) that has a level in either psion or ardent or something similarly psionic.

I do like the idea of the ghost controlling four sizing chains that slam into an enemy, disarm him, trip him and beat him senseless. Sizing is there just for effect, seeing 4 colossal chains create craters in the ground is an awesome image as well (to me at least) :P

Ghost is just CR +2, but LA +5. Otherwise it sounds pretty interesting.

Note that your Cohort doesn't have to be Undead.  The big draw of Undead Leadership is that the Cohort's level is 2 below your ECL instead of your Character Level.

In any case, you want to check out the Ghost Guide.  There are a lot of different, really good Ghost abilities.  MotUH is just the most obvious, most straight-forward one.

Ok, here's my suggestion...

Unless you want Major Image, pick up a Sagacious Ghost instead of a vanilla Ghost.  Same ECL, more abilities.  Take advantage of the Knowledge bonuses with Archivist.  What's more, the wide versatility of the Archivist list makes up for the fact that he's 3 spell levels behind you.  Add in Knowledge Devotion and your Telekinesis attacks become that much more potent, but for this particular build I probably wouldn't bother with MotUH.  Chill Ray also makes a nice addition to this build, since it's such a nasty debuff and Knowledge Devotion helps with the touch attack.  For some extra utility, add in Malevolence.

Good suggestion. I will definitely look into it X-Codes
