Blood-Spiked Charger oddity
« on: December 15, 2011, 05:17:52 PM »
This has likely come up before, but it's the first time I've noticed it:

The Spiked Slam maneuver says that your attack "...deals extra damage equal to your Strength and an additional amount based on your size (see below)."

Now, the size damage is trivial...but is that first part right?  Does it actually deal extra damage equal, not to your Strength BONUS, but to your Strength?

That has to be abusable, if so.

Has there been errata on this?

There's never been an errata... it's always done that.  It's why my Bulldozer build uses the feat at the end if you have flaws so you can fit it in.

Should read that the attacks “deals extra damageequal to twice your Strength bonus” and not “twiceyour Strength.”

From the errata to PHB2.

Twice your Strength score would be absurd.  Sure, not in the realm of traveling back in time and killing people in the womb or bending space to your will, or Pun-Pun, but absurd.

...which answers my question.   I figured as much; on the other hand, the maneuver's not all that impressive otherwise, so there was just the slim chance that they actually meant what they wrote (as opposed to having abysmal editorial standards.)

Bah, I guess that came out after I made that build.  Well, so much for that feat being of value.

You know the feat isn't really terrible at all. Spiked Avalanche gives you decent damage bonus and two attacks during a charge. That really amounts to more than Battle Jump's damage bonus with it's flat x2 to damage.

It's just Pounce both overshadows and doesn't stack with it is all. If your DM decides Pouncing is a bit much, the feat has merit.

I agree with Soro.  If your DM won't let you use one of the easy ways to pounce, you at least have another pouncing option for considerable enough damage.
