[Pathfinder] Tripper/Disarmer
« on: January 29, 2012, 12:16:11 AM »
Okay, just thinking out loud. I have no experience with Pathfinder. I'm playing with a bunch of quick learners who have no experience with d20 in general outside of Warlord CCG. One of them is totally sold on playing a Gun Slinger. He loves the idea of shooting objects on the ground. My thought was to help him accomplish this by playing a character who Disarms. I know that if I'm taking Combat Expertise, I might as well take Improved Trip and of course use a reach weapon.

We start at level 1. I'm thinking the Lore Warden ACF will be good since it grants more skill points and gives a bonus to CMB and free Combat Expertise.
I appreciate the logical, cool-headed responses and the lack of profanity displayed by our community.

What books are open?  Fury's Fall feat (check d20pfsrd) is from a paizo splat book, it lets you add str and dex on trip checks.  Inquisitor 3 gives you the ability to benefit from teamwork feats as if your allies all had the ones you do.  Ultimate Combat has a teamwork feat, Tandem Trip, that says anytime another ally with this feat is threatening a foe, you can roll 2d20 for every trip attempt on that foe and take the higher result.

Just some ideas.  There's also a Guided (+1) weapon property from another paizo splat book to replace str with wisdom for attack and damage rolls, if you wanted to build around the inquisitor levels more (since it adds wis to initiative and other fun stuff).

Just some suggestions.

Honestly the best "maneuver specialist" I ever saw in PF was a summoner's eidolon, because, just as in 3E, lots of size and strength really is all you need to be good at maneuvers.

There is an handbook about trip build that is referenced in the following post :
http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=1932.0

To me it seems a pretty good introduction to the topic.

In the last part there are build exemples that can give you ideas.

Yeah, I saw that guide. The content of it was fairly obvious for someone with 3.5 experience:

Use a reach weapon, take Improved and Greater Trip, buff your size and CMB.

But these are the min/max forums, not the "take Weapon Focus: Guisarme so you can up your to-hit by 1." forums.

Party is currently 1 Ranged Ranger, 1 Gunslinger, 1 Ranged Fighter, 1 Witch. I stand in front of them and trip stuff that comes after them. The Witch will be crafting a wand of Enlarge Person for me at level 2, I believe. He'll also be buffing me against many enemies (especially the buff that lets me roll two dice instead of one for combat in case I roll low on a trip) or debuffing single targets. He's the only other player that has 3.5 experience, so everyone else is just kind of playing whatever the first thing they liked the sound of. The Ranger is "Lady Huntinghawk" and taking a Wolf at level 4 (Lady Hawk, anybody?). The ranged fighter is the DM's wife who doesn't feel like sitting at home while he plays. The Gunslinger loves the flavor of gunslinger. The witch knows what he's doing. And I wanted to keep goons away from my shooters.

After finishing out level 3 (a good breaking point for Lore Warden) in Fighter, what class should I switch to? Any PrC's worth looking at?

Barbarian can use Strength Surge and Knockdown rage powers each once per rage.  If you dip Oracle for a level at 9+, you can take lame curse for fatigue immunity and drop into a rage for one round, end it, and start anew each turn to use those powers once every round.

Maybe consider it.
