[3.P] Level 8 Ranger
« on: February 25, 2012, 05:01:42 PM »
Hello there,

Our GM is going to start a serie of three one shot. We will start at level height and i don't think it will increase a lot. We are playing with the Pathfinder rules in the world of HârnMaster. So, from what he told us, it will be low fantasy.

I'm planning to play a Ranger switch hitter.

Here is my stat roll, which can't be change since we made each roll for a defined stat.
16Str/17Dex/17Con/14Int/15Sag/10Cha
As you can see, i can't complain about them... (even if a little 18Str would have been welcome)

My build would be the following :
1 : Power Attack
2 : Archery combat style feat (Rapid Shot)
3 : (Quick Draw)
4 : Hunter's Bond (Wolf)
5 : Boon Companion
6 : Archery combat style feat (Manyshot)
7 : Deadly Aim
9 : Improved Critical

The races allowed are Humans, Half-Elves-Elves and Dwarfs and i plan to go with either Human or Half-Elf and put the +2 in strengh.
Half-Elf :
Pro :
-Low-Light Vision.
-Ancestral Arms for Curve Blade, Elven wich is better and i think more coherent than a falchion for the campain setting.
Human :
Pro :
-Bonus feat can be use for the Curve Blade, Elven
-+1 skill point per level
Con :
-Non Low-Light Vision

In conclusion, the half-elf seems better if going for the Curve Blade, Elven. But as our characters might never level a lot, i might not be to go for the critical route (Improved Critical and Critical Focus etc.) and then, a two-handed sword could be nicer.
Same goes for the Boon Companion feat. If there will be no more than three one shots, it might be nice to have a wolf with a lage size. Otherwise, i would have to wait until level ten.

So, i'm open to any suggestion for the feats, race, pro/con.
Thanks a lot for your help.

If APG is allowed, I wouldn't even bother with switch hitter.  Point Blant Master lets you fire while threatened just fine.  Sadly, you have to use a Ranger bonus feat of 6th level or higher to get it, and your 6th level feat is actually a class feature called "Improved Precise Shot," so you won't have it till 10th.
On that note... why does your 6th level class feature say "Manyshot," a feat you can qualify for with your 7th level general feat anyway?

Alright, so it's a "3-shot" that won't reach 10th level.  Switch hitter still seems unnecessary, at least in terms of feats.  By all means keep a +1 2H weapon available for backup.  I'd do this for feats:

1 Point Blank Shot
2 Precise Shot [Ranger]
3 Rapid Shot
5 Weapon Focus (Longbow)
6 Improved Precise Shot [Ranger]
7 Manyshot
9 Clustered Shots (it's from Ultimate Combat, basically makes DR a joke)
10 Point Blank Master [Ranger]

Could drop some things for Boon Companion and Deadly Aim if you want, too.  Weapon Focus is required for PBM, though.
