Binding: hedged prison question

Binding is an 8th level spell that has many different options in ways to cast it.  On of them is the hedged prison.

Quote
Hedged Prison

The subject is transported to or otherwise brought within a confined area from which it cannot wander by any means. The effect is permanent. Reduce the save DC by 3.
"The subject is transported to or otherwise brought within a confined area..."

Does the spell do this transporting?  Or must the subject already be inside the confined area when binding is cast?  I'm of the opinion it is the first (the spell transports the target to the designated confined area), but I've read interpretations that disagree.

It appears to me that the spell does the transporting, though it is definitely vague.  How far can it transport them?  How big can the confined area be?

My guess would be to treat it as a baby version of Imprisonment.  It doesn't matter where the creature goes, the point is that it's not here.  Likewise, it doesn't really matter how big the "confined area" is, the point is that it's small enough to inconvenience the creature trapped there and that it can't get out.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

Just how I see it.  Glad I could get some agreement on the interpretation.
