Hi Forum Folks,

I am a big fan of the Summon Undead spells (I through V).  Although over the years, I've pretty much exhausted all the "Excitement Factor" from this necro-terrific set of spells due to the limited number of undead monster options you can summon.  When you look at the Summon Monster spells, they've accumulated 20/30/40+ options for each of the 9 spells.

I'm not that great at evaluating comparative Challenge Rating and overall suitability criteria for adding new undead creatures to these 5 Summon Undead spells.  So that's why I'm coming to you.

If you were to add more undead creatures to these summon spells, which ones would you add ..... and *where*?

****************

Assume the use of all 3.0/3.5 WotC published monsters.  I'll be curious if we get into any debates on proper placement of specific undead.  :-)

The other summoning spells loosely follow the criteria of the summon's CR being the level of the spell, with higher-level spells sometimes summoning stronger critters.  There's a fiend summoning guide with a CR breakdown somewhere around here...

EDIT: Here - http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=5573.0
SM I: ½
SM II: 1
SM III: 2
SM IV: 3
SM V: 4-5
SM VI: 5-6
SM VII: 7-8
SM VIII: 9-10
SM IX: 11-13

So if you want to summon an undead critter with a certain level spell, look to those ranges for guidelines on what level of spell you need to use.

Thanks, X-Codes!  That's a very helpful table.

Now I'll have to see how to squeeze in the Ephemeral Swarm.  An incredibly dangerous undead swarm that may need to be bumped up a few "Summon Monster" levels.
