Feats/Magic Items that support Non-Lethal Damage
« on: March 10, 2012, 05:36:37 PM »
I'm going to make a character who's main focus is non-lethal combat.  I'm playing a pokemon master character so my class progression is set in stone.

Also, I get the following ability: Pokémasters are proficient with dealing nonlethal damage with any bludgeoning damage with which they are already proficient (thus, they do not suffer a -4 to-hit penalty when attempting to inflict nonlethal damage with any bludgeoning weapon they are proficient with).

I'm looking for feats or magic items that give bonuses to non-lethal damage.  The Merciful weapon quality is a good example of what I'm looking for.

What else is there?

Nonlethal Substitution (metamagic)
Subduing Strike (crap)
Whelm (spell) --> wand!
Searing Exposure (spell)
Inevitable Defeat (spell)
Bigby's Striking Fist (spell)
End to Strife (spell) (lol)

Of course everything is a spell.  I should have seen that coming.   :banghead

The class I'm using is not a spellcaster and UMD is not on his spell list.   :(

Is there any support for non-lethal damage that isn't spellcasting?

Updated the OP with more information.  I can do non-lethal damage without penalties.  I was wondering if there are any feats that give extra bonuses to anything when doing non-lethal damage.  I know Pathfinder has some support for this and I was wondering if there was any 3.5 support as well.

Anything that increases your damage will increase your nonlethal damage... Bludgeoning?  Greater Mighty Wallop.

That requires somebody to cast a spell, which means that it won't help me at all.   :p

If there's no other specific non-lethal damage support then there isn't any.

This is what I meant about us needing a spellcaster!  Lol.

Are custom items allowed?  If so, get a 1/day item with Greater Mighty Wallop.  Set the CL to 16 for four size increases and 16 hours of use.

Power Attack and Shock Trooper, even without Pounce, can certainly work.

BTW, Apprentice: Spellcaster gets you UMD as a class skill.

There's always the option of just wielding a sap.  It deals nonlethal damage on its own, then you can just enchant it and take weapon feats from there that improve upon it.
What do I win?
An awesome-five for mentioning Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.

I can use a heavy mace and do more non-lethal damage that way with no penalty.  I was just looking for feats that give a bonus when already doing non-lethal damage.  It seems that they are none.

Are PF feats out?  As you said, they do have support for this concept.  Most notably the Enforcer feat, and Sap Adept / Sap Master if you have sneak attack.

Probably, it is specifically a 3.5 game.  Thanks for the thought though.
