[3.5] Quick Warmind/Slayer build
« on: March 20, 2012, 02:21:37 PM »
Started lamenting that Warmind didn't progress an existing manifester class and instead had its own manifesting levels, and how that discourages psionic classes from PrCing into it, but that gave me an idea (that surely nobody has ever had before because I am clearly a genius). What if you take Warmind, then Slayer, for a 14th-level manifester Warmind? It probably works out pretty well, here's the stub I came up with:

Human Paragon 2/Fighter 2/Lion Totem Barbarian 1/Warmind 15-x/Slayer x

X is probably nine, because while it loses the greater Warmind chains, it gives Cerebral Immunity, which is overall a much stronger ability than two extra AC, STR and CON for a minute/day 3/day.

Also, Warmind's base PP extrapolates to 132 PP, which is not shabby at all.

For feats, the build requires Track and Wild Talent. After that, I have no idea what to take. I was initially thinking of basic leap attack/shock trooper/combat brute charge fighter stuff, but then I remembered you can take psionic feats by virtue of Wild Talent, so yeah. I was thinking power attack, psycrystal affinity, psionic weapon/deep impact, and after that I'm at a bit of a loss.

Suggestions?
What would you think if I sang out of tune?

How are you getting Warmind15, when it's only a 10 level PrC? Or are you using a 3rd party class/home brew? Also, you amy get more mileage out of Swordsage, Warblade or even Ranger instead of Human Paragon or Fighter.

Warmind 15 minus X, where X is the amount of Slayer levels you want to take. Slayer advances any manifesting class, and Warmind is a manifesting class, so you extrapolate the table and there you go.

Also, I'm pretty sure I need the one level of Human Paragon at least to grab Knowledge(psionics) as a perma-class skill, otherwise I can't qualify for Warmind by level five unless I take a psionic class, and I'm kind of trying to avoid that.

Well ... it's houserules, but that's fine.

I assume you really want Warmind 5 / Slayer 9 (or 10)
... for the specific class features. Yes they can work.
No, there's no real sure thing for what happens with
Warmind -festing above level 10.  You're stuck with
houseruling a progression.  Again, not a problem.

Warmind ppoint prog closes in on Psion / Ardent / Wilder numbers.
Warmind gets 1 power per level, like PsyWar or Ardent.
Hardly gamebreaking to stretch it, like an Ardent of the same fester level.

Any suggestions on better routes to go for levels 2-5? I'm pretty sure I need one level of Human Paragon to make the knowledge (psionics) ranks, but for the rest I can probably do better if I don't want to run a charging build. Any suggestions besides what's been said? I don't think Bo9S classes would be good unless considered only as "survive until higher levels" crutches, and Ranger only seems good as a free source of the Track feat.

Maybe some Incarnum stuff?  Like Totemist 2 or Incarnate 3 or something like that?

I see melee with access to concentration.  I think you should stick a level of warblade in there for moment of perfect mind, action before thought, wall of blades, and a stance.

QFT, definitely the smart move.

Unless your DM handwaves it, the stance has to be 1st level unfortunately. You'll probably end up taking Bolstering Voice for the Will Saves.

Another thought, have you considered rather than Warmind

Ardent 2, Lion Totem Barbarian 1, Totemist 2, Ghostbreaker 1, Warblade 1, Ghostbreaker +3, Slayer 10

Ghostbreaker is a full BAB full manifesting short prestige class from Hyperconscious that grants immunity to negative levels and the ability to find and banish the undead.

I'd be tempted to get Tashalatora on the Slayer levels, picking up a Serpent's Tooth and a Monk's Belt and Tattoos. Not sure it's really worth the feats, but it's characterful and with the Lion Totem level it's actually pretty decent.

+1 to Ghostbreaker, it aslo gives you an ability that is explicity called to work like Turn Undead, so you can argue that you can use it to fuel divine feats or devotions (Law Devotion is quite tasty as it can give you up to +7 attack bonus or AC)
