Epic Spell ... "Recorded onto stone tablet"
« on: April 01, 2012, 02:30:35 PM »
Does anyone remember any examples at all of
an epic spell "recorded onto stone tablet" ??

The only thing I googled is this (don't know the guy / no idea of accuracy here).
He cites Dmag # ?? on page 50.  Anybody know which issue ?

It's an option you can use in the creation of the spell. It doubles the Spellcraft DC but lets another spellcaster learn it without going through the development process.

That sphinx really is horribly weak for the CR. It can't fly at all, and 1240 hit point can easily be dealt with a metamagic'd orb spell.

Right, and right ... it's funny that back on old CO deathwishjoe did
an Effigy Master build, that was better than this, and at level 6 iirc.

I get the impression even from such limited data,
that the Tablet itself is a Magic Item.  You know,
like the basic behind the scenes stuff that goes
into learning a spell or power, and you have to use
Spellcraft on Scrolls or Psicraft on Powerstones.
The Tablet is like a Scroll, except you can only
learn the spell on it.  You cast it separately.

Does this sound mostly reasonable?

Won't "magic immune" defeat the orb spell?

But I think they just threw things onto the Sphinx creation method to make it sound way more impressive than it is.

Magic Immunity (assuming it's similar to other Golems) doesn't protect you from orbs because they don't allow SR.
