equipment in wild shape
« on: November 08, 2011, 11:08:32 AM »
Even with a Wilding Clasp, most forms can't wear gloves. Is there any way to make the powers of gloves available in wild shape?

I ask because with Improved Natural Weapon (unarmed strike), Warshaper and the Greater Mighty Wallop power my character has on his gloves, he can do gargantuan damage as a mayfly. :)

I don't think there's a strictly RAW way to keep it in any form, no.  But you can look at the raiment of the stormwalker set from the MIC for examples - they all meld with form, but are still usable in wild shape.

Thanks! I'm not sure how to price it though, because the item powers don't function -- only the set powers. Also, prices for set items in MIC don't follow the normal rules: They're often cheaper than they should be.

Not true:

"A set of bracers of lightning allows you to charge your melee and ranged weapon attacks with electricity... A druid can activate this item while in wild shape."

"While you wear a robe of thunder, [etc]... A druid benefits from wearing this item and can activate it even while in wild shape."

Ah. I missed that part. Thanks!

Hm... Is there any spell that can grant humanoid hands to a non-humanoid creature? That could work if it exists.

Girallon's BlessingSpC, off the top of my head - I think there are a couple more.

Nice. It's expensive to put into a magic item (3*5*2000*1.5 = 45k gold, or 180k in my campaign, since spells in Ancestral Relics must be added at clvl 20 - house rule) but I'll keep it around as an option. I can always cast it whenever I need it.

Savage Species has the Arms of the Naga item that gives you 2 arms / hands.  I don't recall the exact price, but it was around 52,000 GP or so.

I think it was either Savage Species or the MIC that gave some item rules for creatures with non-humanoid anatomies.  Basically, a horse could wear "gloves of dexterity" on or above the front hooves, for example.  Boots would be on or above the hind hooves.  Alter as needed for creatures however you see fit pretty much.

That works for crafting items specifically for certain creatures, but won't help with Wild Shape. A horse can't wear a five-fingered glove.

Call them 'hand wraps' instead of gloves, and have it be something you wrap around your hands.  Even if you change into a bear or something else, any appendage still has an end for them to be wrapped around.  Size shouldn't be an issue since magical items are presumed to shift size and 'fit' when wildshaped with a wilding clasp anyway.

Outsider Wild Shape!

I don't really have anything else to contribute to this conversation though

EDIT: Except for Aberration Wild Shape, and other obvious ways of getting humanoid-ish forms
