[3.5] Vampiric varag villain
« on: April 11, 2012, 10:44:03 PM »
Hey all, I'm working on an NPC/monster build for a possible upcoming campaign.

The base is a Varag (MM4), with the Vampire template. I want to create a hit-and-run skirmisher who can inflict negative levels. I haven't decided on class levels yet, but I'm shooting for around CR 9 (varag + vampire = CR 3 base). I'd like to avoid casters, as there will be other NPC enemies to cover this role, and I wanted to concentrate on a more-or-less melee build for this guy.

The varag/vampire combo gets the following bonus feats: Alertness, Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Improved Initiative, Lightning Reflexes, Run & Spring Attack (Spring Attack without prereqs is sweet!).

Abilities will be elite array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 - with the 8 in Con, of course). Str +10, Dex +8, Con --, Int -2, Wis +2, Cha +4.

Thought? Suggestions? The race and template are pretty much"set in stone", but all other suggestions are weclome.

Cheers - T

That can make those individual attacks from spring attack REALLY hurt. Add power attack and whatnot as well. I'd also suggest a blurstrike/Pandemonic Silver weapon to disrupt them a bit.

EDIT: Get a disruptive weapon from the MiC. It'll heal you for a d6 on each hit, while doing an extra 2d6 to them.

The last time I had to PC against one of those annoying bastards, they had a huge terrain advantage. Plenty of obstacles to hide behind on the approach and escape.

A well designed lair is a good way to boost his difficulty.

I'm leaning towards 6 levels of Swordsage for this guy. What would be some good manouvres and stances for hit-and-run tactics? Any that can be used as part of a Spring Attack would be ideal.
