The factions of Sigil
« on: April 26, 2012, 12:28:45 AM »
I recall that there were quite a few factions in Sigil in 2nd edition, but the Planar Handbook mentions like.....five. What happened to the rest of them? If possible, I would like a list.

Sigil is only mentioned in Planar Handbook in detail for 3.5 correct?
And in 2e, it was apart of a large campaign setting I believe (did not play 2e, though have played the bastard child Hackmaster).

That might explain it right there.
Im really bad at what I do.
A+

Betrayor more or less summarizes it.  It was called the Faction War, released at the end of the 2E/Planescape cycle.  It was one of those mega-adventures that changed the game setting.

You should just be able to google for them.  Or, Planewalker(.net, I think?) has a big 3.5 conversion of Planescape that probably includes them.

Hey, thanks.

And reading the section on Sigil in detail, the map was swiped wholesale from Torment.

^ it's the other way around, you know.  Torment is set in the Planescape campaign setting, which predates the computer game by about 5 years.

I meant the map inside the 3.5 Planar Handbook, rather than the actual planescape campaign setting, which obviously predated that fantastic bit of an interactive novel that we call a game. The map inside the 3.5 PLH takes pains to specifically mark out the Civic festhall, the Mortuary, and other such locations, which are not even mentioned inside the text itself.

I never noticed.  Though I guess that's not surprising:  I never actually played Torment, though I did pick it up on the cheap recently (GOG games, btw).  I only really use the 2E Planescape materials for the setting, having only glanced at the PLH stuff.

If you do ever get around to playing it, Mage is obviously the best class, and all of the mental stats are important for dialogue options, particularly wisdom. And Mage gets more dialogue options anyway, so there is little reason to be a fighter when the PC cannot wear armor anyways and always has a D12 Hit dice.

As promised I will post which issues of dragon magazine have informations about the Sigil Factions....

Fractious Factions: Planar Prestige Classes in dragon 287(this is 3.0 though)

The Exiled Factions in Dragon 315

Dead Factions in Dragon 339

Very intersting especially the last two if you want to know what happened to Sigil....

Planar Handbook references Star Wars: A New Hope in its Sigil section.  The Hive is a section of scum and villainy.  Hah.

Expedition to the Demonweb Pits has a little more info on Sigil, and has 3.5 stats for the Dabus.
