War Chanter + War Weaver?
« on: April 26, 2012, 03:00:29 AM »
I've been trying to squeeze 10 levels of War Chanter into a War Weaver build.  Meant for a party that already has spellcasting covered.

Here's the issue: 10 levels of War Chanter (levels 11-20) - requires bardic music.  Then 5 levels of War Weaver (6-10?) - which requires 3rd level arcane casting.  So ideally, it'd be Wiz 5 / War Weaver 5 / War Chanter 10, if there were some way to bolt Bardic Music onto a Wizard.

... instead, I had to turn to 'Sanctum Spell,' which I'm not totally clear on - wanted to run the build by you-all to make sure it works.  Basically, 3 goals: (1) Dragonfire Inspiration, (2) War Chanter 10, (3) as much War Weaver as possible.

Silverbrow Human

Stalwart, Dragonblood Sorcerer 4 (Draconic Heritage: Battle: Sonic Damage and Perform as a class skill) - Sanctum Spell(1), Fiery Burst(Human), Enlarge Spell (3)
(Should give 2nd level spells, sanctum'ed to 3rd for early entry.  Also at-will Fiery Bursts from level 1.)

War Weaver 1

Prestige Bard 1 - Extra Music (6)

War Weaver 2-5 (4th level spells, 4th level spells woven, 4 quiescent weaves) - Combat Expertise (9)

Warchanter 10 (A whole lot of amazing bardic music abilities) - Dragonfire Inspiration, Song of the Heart, Words of Creation

... thoughts?  Does it work?  Is there a better way to do it?  How do I get more spells?  This seems like a lot of work for not a lot of awesome buffs...

(Edit: Forgot Feat PreReqs.  Duh.)

Spells:
1:
Nerveskitter
Benign Transposition
Mage Armor
Feather Fall
(??? - Charm Person ???)
2:
Scorching Ray
Animalistic Power
Invisibility
Essence of the Dragon

3:
Haste
(Lost - Stalwart Sorcerer)

4:
Polymorph

What about going Bard1/Wiz3/War Weaver5/War Chanter10/X1?

I remember a creature that gives Bardic Music when polymorphed into.  It may be the Coatl.

X1 = Warblade or Warmage or Cleric with the War domain, clearly.
I appreciate the logical, cool-headed responses and the lack of profanity displayed by our community.

If you can get access to Dragon Mag material, go take a look at Heartfire Fanner and then come back and we'll figure out how to use it in your build.

I looked at it, but it isn't available until level 8, and requires 2 more feats than Prestige Bard.  However, it's +Bardic Music, and +Caster Level.

So... Sorc 1-4 (Weapon Focus, Sanctum Spell, Enlarge Spell, Skill Focus: PErform)
War Weaver 1-5 (Negotiator, Combat Expertise)
Heartfire Fanner 1
Warchanter 1-10 (Dragonfire Inspiration, Song of the Heart, Words of Creation)

... It gets me to 9th level Sorc castinng, which means more spells, but still doesn't get me to 5th level spells.  It also means giving up Extra Music, and giving up  Fiery Burst @ lv. 1 (which seems super-useful at low levels)

I suppose Fiery Burst (or Sanctum Spell) can be retrained... Does the Heartfire Fanner build look better?

Can you take flaws for feats?

It's not for any particular game, so sure.  I try to avoid flaws, though, since they're not common in the games I play.  Why, how would they help?

I know you said 10 levels of Warchanter in the OP, but if memory serves the real appeal of Warchanter is its capstone ability that can potentially improve everyone's BAB.  A War Weaver can pull that off with Divine Power, added to their spell list by various methods.  Don't know if that helps or anything, though.

Extra flaws mean extra feats.  Surely you can find some great use for 2 more feats in this build!

Don't forget Prestige Bard gets access to bard spells (as per sidebar suggestion) whereas HFF only progresses arcane casting. There are a lot of nice bard buff spells... druid too if you can somehow get access.

For extra feats may I suggest Divine Sorcery if you have access to Dragon Magazine?
I wouldn't always have to be right if so many people didn't insist on always being wrong.
