Level | Bab | Fort | Ref | Will | Feature |
1 | +0 | +0 | +0 | +0 | Mindflayer Minion Body, Sentient Tentacle, Goo Grab, Constrict, Cone of Slime, Voidmind Immunities, Goo over Body, Slime Prowess. |
Skills:2+Int modifier per level. The Voidmind creature's Class skills are Bluff, Craft(any), Escape Artist, Intimidate, Hide, Listen, Knowledge(any), Move Silently, Perform(any), Profession(any), Spot.
Proficiencies:The Voidmind creature gains proficiency with any new natural weapons he gains from this class.
Features:Mindflayer Minion Body:The Voidmind creature keeps all of his previous racial traits and creature type. He looks in every way like before, except for the four plugged holes in his head (which are evident upon close inspection, but any kind of headgear or hat will easily cover it up) that occasionally leak a small amount of greenish fluid.
He also gains a Nat armor bonus equal to his Con modifier. If he already had Nat armor, it increases by 1.
Sentient Tentacle:As a free action, the Voidmind creature can will the greenish fluid oozing out of his head to form in a tentacle natural attack, that deals 1d6+Str mod damage (for a medium creature, adjust acordingly for other sizes) and has double his normal melee reach. In a fullattack, this tentacle can attack at full melee attack bonus whitout penalizing other attacks. As another free action, the Slime Tentacle can be retracted inside the Voidmind Creature's head. If the Voidmind Creature has at least 8 HD, his tentacle ignores Freedom of Movement effects on his oponents.
A voidmind creature’s tentacle attacks of its own accord. The creature can direct it to attack certain targets, but the psionic nature of the tentacle enables it to flex and move in combat without hindering the creature’s other combat abilities. A Voidmind Creature that has successfully grappled a creature with his tentacle can attack another creature at no penalty, as long as that creature is within a distance equal to the tentacle’s reach.
Goo Grab : To use this ability, a voidmind creature must hit a creature with his tentacle attack. He can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking attacks of opportunity. A voidmind creature has a racial bonus on grapple checks made with his tentacle equal to ½ his HD. If theVoidmind Creature wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and can constrict.
Constrict: A voidmind creature gains the ability to constrict his victim with a successful grapple check. When he constricts with his sentient tentacle, he deals 1d6 (for a medium creature, adjut acordingly for other sizes) plus 1,5 Str mod damage.
Cone of Slime: Once per hour as a standard action, a voidmind creature can expel the psionically charged slime in his head in a 30-foot cone. This attack deals 1d6 points of acid damage per Hit Die of the voidmind creature. A successful Reflex save (DC 10 + ½ Voidmind Creature’s HD + Voidmind Creature’s Con modifier) halves the damage. In addition, any creature that takes damage from the spray takes a –2 penalty on its Will saves and is stunned for 1d4+1 rounds (Fortitude save negates the stun; save DC same as above). The psionic slime replenishes itself automatically in a hour. If the Voidmind creature has 10 HD or more, his Cone of Slime can affect even creatures normally immune to Stun, but they gain a +5 bonus on their saves.
Voidmind Immunities: A voidmind creature has immunity to acid and mind-affecting spells and abilities (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects). It is also immune to ability damage, ability drain, and energy drain.
Goo Over Body: The Voidmind creature gains SR equal to 11+HD and DR/magic equal to ½ HD. He may rise or drop his SR at any time as a free action.
Slime Prowess: The Voidmind Creature gains +1 to Int and +1 to a Physical ability score of his choice.
New FeatsCreate Voidmind Creature
“In ages past, mind flayers experimented to discover the proper method to create a new servitor race, consuming a great many creatures’s brains in the process. Only when one illithid proposed leaving a portion of the brain intact enough to preserve the motor functions of the bodywas the first voidmind creature created. A voidmind creature hovers on death’s door as a result of the process of its creation, drawing power from the psionic ritual used to infuse it with a semblance of life.
The creation of a voidmind creature requires the joint effort of three illithids, one of which must be the mindflayer that succeeded in attaching all four tentacles to the creature’s skull. They begin by eating portions of the subject’s brain until just the part is left that allows the creature to move. Into the near-empty skull, through the holes created by the tentacles, is poured a quantity of psionically charged, translucent green goo. When the voidmind creature’s cranium is again full, the mind fl ayers fi ll the four holes in the skull with dabs of mucus that quickly solidify into loose-fi tting plugs. At the end of the process, the creature is ready and willing to do the foul bidding of its masters.”
Prerequisites: 8 levels of the Mindflayer monster class.
Benefit:To use this, you need two other willing Mindflayer allies with this feat, a victim and have spent 24 hours preparing the translucent green goo with a special psionic ritual, which demands an amount of raw materials worth an amount of GP equal to your 1000*(victim's HD squared).
Then you must attach four of your tentacles on the victim's head and start carefully extracting pieces of your victim's brains, with the help of the other two mindflayers, and then replace the eaten parts with the previously prepared good. The process takes 1 minute per HD of the victim. A mindflayer instictively knows how much goo he'll need as he eats the victim's brain, and can partially use goo prepared for a stronger creature (so for example if the mindflayer had prepared 100 000 gp worth of goo for a 10 HD creature, he could instead use it to convert four 5 HD creatures, spending 25 000 gp worth of goo in each of them).
Once the process is finished, the victim receives a level of the Voidmind Creature class and also gains the following ability
Mind Flayer Host : Three mind flayers form a bond with any voidmind creature they create. A different mind fl ayer cannot bond itself to a voidmind creature after creation. The creature’s masters are instantly aware if the creature takes any damage, wanders out of range of their control, or is the target of any magic. Also as a result of this bond, the masters can, as a standard action, see and hear through the eyes and ears of their bonded voidmind creature to a range of five miles. Maintaining this link requires a mind flayer to concentrate, but the mind flayer remains aware of its surroundings and can move normally. Finally, any one of the three masters can take control of the voidmind creature, at will, as the dominate monster spell (no save, immunity-piercing). While controlling the voidmind creature in this fashion, a mind flayer can manifest its own innate psionic abilities through the voidmind creature, as though the creature were manifesting the ability itself. Any of the mind flayer’s psionic powers used in this fashion can target or affect creatures within range, line of sight, and line of effect of the voidmind creature. So, for example, a mindflayer can use plane shift to send the voidmind creature to another plane, or it could send itself to another plane. Likewise, the mind flayer could use suggestion on a target it sees through the voidmind creature’s eyes.
The Voidmind creature still has some free will, but unless they have the Alertness, Combat Reflexes and Great Fortitude feats, they can't hope to ever break from their servitude. Even should the Mindflayer masters die, a contigent psionic backslash will instantly and utterly destroy the Voidmind creature whitout any hope of recovery, unless it had those feats. Should the Voidmind Creature break free and ever retrain or lose any of those feats, the contigency triggers instantly and destroys them anyway.
Oozing Slime
Your psionic slime recharges at an unnatural rate.
Prerequisites: Must be a Voidmind Creature.
Benefit:You can use Cone of Slime every 1d4+1 rounds instead of every hour.
Multi Slime
Your fractured mind spawns multiple tentacles, one for each of your hidden personalities.
Prerequisites: Must be a Voidmind Creature.
Benefit:Whenever you project your Sentient Tentacle, you may produce one more for every 6 HD you have. Those extra tentacles only add half your Str mod to damage, but otherwise work just as your Sentient Tentacle.
CommentsMindflayer Tought process:
Step 1-Eat brains in moderation.
Step 2-Fill empty space in the skull with mysterious green goo.
Step 3-?
Step 4-Profit!
So, the Voidmind creature is a really obscure template, some drunk mindflayer experiment to create better, stronger minions. Which somehow ends up giving them a goo tentacle sticking out of their heads and a bunch of random immunities and some bonus for good measures. Oh, and they can also shoot the goo out of their heads, which aparently is so WTF that it makes the targets get a penalty on will saves no matter what and can also stun them.
Since it's just CR+1, it's 1 level long, so I really didn't have to make any new abilities. Just gave a faster cooldown to the Head-Slime-Breath, and then the option of either having the “bonus” feats already to make up for all the abilities you get in a single dip, or becoming a minion of some mindflayer NPCs. Altough I guess a party could have three mindflayer PCs and the rest being Voidmind Creatures. Wee thematic party!
So if you want to play a thing with mostly goo instead of brains that's somehow actually smarter than before, the Voidmind Creature's for you!
