Don't you need to be at least one size category bigger than your mount to ride it? Or did some idiot writer allow druids to get medium air elementals as permanent pets at level 1?

Err... you meant smaller, right?
He could get smaller then the elemental with Reduce Person... but where would he get that spell from...

You can probably get to 3 or 4 using feats and nonmagical items.
Nope
You know the cool thing about being the author of that thread? I can add more relevant stuff to it as wanted. :D

As such, expanded on Turn Undead for the purposes of turn undead. Also changed the "other considerations" to two Domain entries, probably finish that section next time I'm motived into it.

Anyway.
Improved Turning (+1lvl) + Glory Domain (+1lvl) + Combine Turning (ensure you roll 20+ on check for +4lvl) = 7HD limit.
I didn't hit 8HD (yet). I sad.

It ought to be amended to all PHB races, at least. That gives the option of being small, even if it's probably not worth losing a feat for.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the turn undead check doesn't change the boundary of what gets commanded and what just gets rebuked. Only changes the limit of what you can affect.

Also, how are you getting around this: "A commanded undead creature is under the mental control of the evil cleric. The cleric must take a standard action to give mental orders to a commanded undead. At any one time, the cleric may command any number of undead whose total Hit Dice do not exceed his level. He may voluntarily relinquish command on any commanded undead creature or creatures in order to command new ones."

Relook at things.

Cleric 1 has a 1HD control limit and via check can Rebuke/Command 5HD.
Improved Turning gives +1 to your effective level. This means 2HD cap and 6HD affected.
Glory Domain was +1 to lvl thus 3HD cap, but dumb me read the wrong version. SRD is +2 to check & +1d6 to damage, no level boost.

Anyway, I thought was setting at 3HD, just like the effective level was 7, another +1 level would have done it.

The turning check is just a cap on what you can affect at all, totally separate from the destroying part.

Oh, and the most cheese that can be done at this level, within the presented rules, is erudite with the shards of leadership trick.

Deathbound Domain gets you 3 times your HD as your control limit rather than 2 times.

Don't stop at 8th level slots, you can get another extra turning from a domain. But won't you only have one high-level spell slot? And still be CL 1, so you can't get much duration either.
Can't. Extra Slot gives you one level lower than max level you can cast. So, without Earth Sense/Earth Spell, you're stuck at 8s, and you do need Extra Turning. Plus, really, outside of the Elemental Swarm equivalents, I think 8s are basically as good as the 9s at this point. Earthquake, Mass Inflict Critical, etc. especially since 8s still get Fierce Pride of somethign or other.

You would definitely want a summoning spell of some sort rather than a damage or save or suck type I would have thought. At least if you could get it to last a couple of rounds.

Deathbound Domain gets you 3 times your HD as your control limit rather than 2 times.
A. I think it says it works on undead you create, think animate dead which is normally clx2.
B. Rebuke's cap is your effective Cleric level, not x2.

Improved Turning may be the only +1 level option available to level 1s. Shame shame...

Druid with Air Elemental companion >>> Air Elemental 1 racial class.

I concede ... and find such an obvious miss on my part, stupid  :shakefist
