[Pathfinder] Blaster Sorcerer
« on: July 31, 2012, 07:18:15 PM »
I was recently invited to play in a friends campaign as a drop in character (he lives a long way from me usually but we are getting together for a game) and he asked for a ranged damage dealer type character. The rest of the players are not so good at optimising but apparently keep coming close to death against equal CR monsters so hopefully I can add some backbone to the group.

Current idea is-
Race: Undine
Class: Sorcerer
Archetype: Crossblooded
Bloodlines: Draconic and Primal Elemental (Water)
Traits: Elemental Pupil (Cold)
Due to the combination of bloodline arcana and Traits that nets me a +3 damage/Die on Cold/water spells.

I do however need help with feats/equipment/spell selection as I have no real experience with pathfinder and lacking my usual 3.5 system mastery is making me feel uncomfortable.

I am not allowed to use any 3.5 materials and have to pass any 3rd party pathfinder through the DM first but otherwise it is a fairly open season. I want to flatten everything I encounter with as much damage as possible. There is also a minor focus on enchantment spells but mostly just to have Unnatural Lust as a part of my backstory.

Modify this until the desired outcome is achieved.

I'd honestly be tempted to take the build you have now for just one level. Then switch to Evoker (Admixture) at second. You'll be getting new spells at the same time as you would as a sorcerer (better than a cross-blood) and you apply your bloodline arcana to all spells not just sorcerer spells.

The admixture specialist allows you to change the elements of your spells on the fly so you get more cold spells for your CL boosts and feats to apply to.

Off the top of my head:

Traits: Wayang Spell Hunter and Magical Lineage (both reduce the level of a spell by one for purposes of metamagic)

Rime Spell (+1 metamagic, creatures that take damage are also entangled)
Irrisen Ice Mage might be useful, but -1 CL to all non cold spells is a bitch

Intensified Spell: Raise the dice cap on a spell by five.
Rod of Maximise/Empower: Standard fare for blasting I guess.

if you wayang hunter+lineaged, for example, fireball  (and admixtured it) you'd be casting a coldball that entangles anyone it hits and can deal up to 15d6 damage as a level 3 spell. Its not amazing but its not nothing.

Its late here but I'll see if I can offer anything else tomorrow
Something inside me dies when I see the word fallacy applied to ideas held about roleplaying. And a small bit of vomit comes up when I see a character called a 'toon'.

Also, for any blaster, Dazing Spell is a very nice metamagic.

Rime Spell is nice.
I appreciate the logical, cool-headed responses and the lack of profanity displayed by our community.
