Help me build 1-2 Crafters
« on: August 23, 2012, 10:11:27 PM »
Hi guys

Looking for some help creating one, possibly two Artificers (or other crafters if they are better) to make all manner of items for my group.

This guy/guys will be 7th Level, and created using 32 point buy. Infinite loops (i.e. Thought Bottle) are not allowed but any dirty tricks are fair game. Plus these guys don't get any extra XP with which to burn through.

I ask because I’ve never created a crafter before. I’m looking for what they can do to make crafting far cheaper than buying as many items as possible.

Any takers?

The Complete Cost Reduction Handbook should help.
1.  Stack all the cost reducing feats/tricks/abilities you can onto your crafter
2.  ????
3.  PROFIT!

Step 4 is to come up with a trick for limitless crafting XP - suggestions include sacrificing people or making a liquid pain factory (this is actually a Good-aligned thing!).
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

Get enough reducers that it's a net gain to absorb the xp in the item?

Do they have to be artificers?  If BoVD is allowed, then you play as a Binder 5/Ur-Priest 2/Divine-Adapted Anima Mage 10.  Sacrifice people for Darkcraft XP and gp, and then bind Astaroth to craft whatever the hell you want that day.

In PHB2, there's a spell called Transference - it lets you use other (willing) creatures XP for crafting instead of your own.  If the group's getting the items, they oughta be willing to cough up the XP.  Or you could bribe some NPC to let you use his.

Suitably evil, but they can be only seventh level :)

Or charm people into letting me use their XP.. :)

Just found out the spell is not in PHB2 itself, but in a web enhancement to PHB2.  Don't have the link handy, but I posted it in the cost reduction handbook discussion thread (or you can google it)

For help with the crafting part get an at will item of Unseen Crafter as soon as you can. Without reducers its 10800 gp, but it pays for itself almost immediately. You use one casting to set the crafter to work on whatever you need, then cast as many additional uses so you can up the DC by intervals of 10 to reduce the craft time. These additional crafters only have to hit a DC 10 to aid another for the duration to give stacking +2s to the check.

Once you have enough GP upgrade it to add an at will item of Fabricate. Remember its only a 3rd level spell if you pull it from the Trapsmith's spell list. 27000 gp for 5 cubic ft at a time. That way you can make small items instantly but big projects, like a ship for instance, you can set your army of crafters on it to make things larger than the Cubic Ft limit of Fabricate.
