Divine Crusader is actually best paired with classes that give you access to more domains, like Sovereign Speaker or Contemplative.

Best, yes.  However, with one of the goals being simplicity, I think even one domain is good

A bit late, but maybe relevant.  Take a look at the Mighty Smiting weapon property from MiC page 39 and see if it appeals to you.

ok...so far we could persuade him into giving up the mount for charging smite...
But i will introduce a crusader soon to the game..lets see if this makes the idea more attractive
