Question Regarding Shadow Templates: "Shadow Blend" ability.
« on: September 27, 2012, 03:54:39 PM »
Quote from: Lords of Madness
Shadow Blend (Su): In any conditions other than full daylight, a shadow creature can disappear into the shadows, giving it total concealmeant.

How exactly does this ability work?
I've been in a discussion with my friends over this and we have several ideas.

1. You gain total concealment from the shadows themselves even if they would normally not be enough to provide it. (This method seems rather pointless because as far as we understand it Darkvision sees right through this. The ability specifically does not mention what grants the full concealmeant, it just implies it.)

2. The abibility acts similiar to Hide in Plain Sight

3. You gain total concealment and nothing short of magically enhanced sight or other nonvisual senses (Hearing, Scent, Tremorsense, ect...) can see through it.

What are we missing?

#3

Yes, that is extremely powerful.

This has been discussed here before, at great length, and it has always ended up being that your #3 is what the RAW is, and that it is one of many things that gets house-ruled like crazy because of it.
