Psychic Warrior Soulbound Weapons ACF

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20070214a

Ok so im confused on this a bit. So I get that at level 1 you choose a type of weapon like say Greatsword, and that the power you take at level 1 needs to be Call Weaponry, and that Soulbound Weapon replaces your 2nd level bonus feat you would normally get. Where im confused is on the bit about getting Weapon focus with the weapon type you chose. Do you have to use your 1st level bonus feat to get weapon focus or do you get it for free as part of this class feature and if you do get it for free as part of the class feature do you get weapon focus at 2nd level or at 1st level.

My second question is, there seems to be a great deal of debate online regarding whether or not this can be used to summon weapons made of specific materials, it doesnt really say and I would think that it didnt because I almost picture it being like ectoplasm manifested into a weapon or something but Im wondering what the opinions of this board might be on this.

Lastly, and there seems to be some debate about this as well, I get that whenever you summon your soulbound weapon, like the greatsword that I mentioned earlier, then depending on what level your at you get a free weapon enhancement bonus to it, +1 at level 4, +2 at level 8, etc but does the new augment that it mentions, the paying 5 pp for enhancments, such as holy, keen, etc, apply to when you use normal call weaponry or when you summon your soulbound weapon with call weaponry or both? I think that it applies just to when you summon your soulbound weapon but some people online seem to think otherwise.

Anyways all opinions are welcome. I personally think that this ACF is bad fucking ass, especially considering this campaign were running is supposed to be low magic as far as items are concerned so magical loot is going to be super limited, which personally I think is uber lame but whatever, im not dm.

Soulbound Weapon

You can summon a specific weapon to your hand that is bound to your very soul.
Level: 1st and 2nd.
Replaces: You lose your 2nd-level bonus feat.
Benefit: You must choose a soulbound weapon at 1st level and you gain the Weapon Focus feat with this weapon. Also, the first power you learn must be Call Weaponry. You can summon your chosen soulbound weapon to your hand using Call Weaponry.

At 2nd level, you gain the soulbound weaponclass ability, and the weapon you summon using call weaponry is of the same type as you chose at 1st level. Its physical appearance slowly changes, growing in power as you do. You must manifest the power call weaponry to obtain your soulbound weapon; you retain the weapon for the duration of the power. You may still use the call weaponry power as normal if you wish. This is a specific weapon every time you summon it, and it automatically gains a weapon enhancement at the following levels:

4th +1 weapon
8th +2 weapon
12th +3 weapon
16th +4 weapon
20th +5 weapon

Also, add the following augmentation to your call weaponry power:

Augmentation: When you manifest your soulbound weapon, for each additional 5 power points you spend, you may add a weapon enhancement of +1 value to the weapon. For example, if you spend an additional 10 power points, you could add two +1 weapon enhancements or a single +2 weapon enhancement.

answer #2 ..... look at the Power used to summon the weapon .... bolded in red

Call Weaponry
 Psychoportation (Teleportation)
 Level: Psychic warrior 1
 Display: Material
 Manifesting Time: 1 round
 Range: 0 ft.
 Effect: One weapon; see text
 Duration: 1 min./level; see text (D)
 Saving Throw: None
 Power Resistance: No
 Power Points: 1

You call a weapon “from thin air” into your waiting hand (actually, it is a real weapon hailing from another location in space and time). You don’t have to see or know of a weapon to call it-in fact, you can’t call a specific weapon; you just specify the kind. If you call a projectile weapon, it comes with 3d6 nonmagical bolts, arrows, or sling bullets, as appropriate. The weapon is made of ordinary materials as appropriate for its kind. If you relinquish your grip on the weapon you called for 2 or more consecutive rounds, it automatically returns to wherever it originated.

Weapons gained by call weaponry are distinctive due to their astral glimmer. They are considered magic weapons and thus are effective against damage reduction that requires a magic weapon to overcome.

Augment: For every 4 additional power points you spend, this power improves the weapon’s enhancement bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls by 1.

does not apply to normal uses of Call Weaponry(that functions as it always has)

BUT, there's an weapon property that's on MIC that makes the weapon able of bypassing any kind of DR as if it was made from the appropriate material. Can't remember the name, but i think it was a +2... So for 10 PP you can ignore any kind of damage resistance. Decent enough, since you won't be needing it all the time. Main thing here is that it gives you FLEXIBILITY... And it saves you MONEY that you can use to buy other useful items, since your primary will be covered by the Soulbound weapon. Since this is for a Thrall, it also serves another purpose, that is, it can set up combos by getting properties that weaken the enemie's will saves for you to pierce and end the encounter, or other fun stuff like stun, daze, blind, etc...

Transmuting from MiC is the enhancement that bypasses DR.

Ok so everything is the way I thought it was. I dont have to take Weapon focus as my bonus feat at first level, I just get it, it cant be made out of any specific materials, and the augment only applies to my soulbound weapon. Good stuff. Thanks for the confirmation guys :) Much appreciated.

Here's another good question for you.

Ok so if my Psychic Warrior uses his power, Expansion, he becomes size Large, now if he used the feat Leap attack, to do a jump charge against an ememy, since he has a natural reach of 10ft in his large state, could he land his jump charge 2 squares away from the enemy instead of 1 and do the attack that comes at the end of a charge, thereby bypassing the provoking of an Attack of Opportunity that the enemy would normally get for me charging into a space that he threatens? Because if so I really like this tactic lol.

Another interesting idea I came up with is that if he is either a Goliath or a Half Giant he can use weapons that are one size class large then normal, so he could use a Large Greatsword two handed with no penalties, which makes the damage 3d6 instead of 2d6, then if I took the feat Monkey Grip, he could use a Huge Greatsword with just a -2 penalty to his attack thereby making the damage 4d6, then if I use the expansion power to become large, which also increases the size of my weapon, according to the weapon size and damage increase table in the dmg, the damage would become 6d6 :)

It's moving out of threatened squares that provokes attacks of opportunity, not into them.  If you have reach, you not only can end your charge further away, you must do so.

Its Natural Reach, which means that since im not wielding a reach weapon I can attack squares adjacent to me and squares one further away and as far as the attack of opportunity thing goes you right, I totally fail on that one, I wonder how I got that in my head, been way to long since I played regularly.

I should clarify.  The reason you must stop earlier is because the rules on charging say the following, “First, you must move to the closest space from which you can attack the opponent.”

ahhh makes sense. I mean if I was in hulk mode I cant see any reason to charge all the way up to them anyways other then maybe if it brought more enemies into range for my cleaves. BTW ill be posting up my new Thrall build sometime later on today. Interested to see what you guys will think of it. Im quite fond of it already. Im having an explosion of great storyline ideas this morning.

AoOs when they try to run away would be the most likely explanation.

I think there is a +3 enhancement in Tome of Magic that overcomes most / all forms of DR... more than Metalline / Morphing / Sure-Striking do...

Yes, it's called Shadow Striking. It's one of my favorites, but it's important to know that it adapts itself to beat the DR of your victim immediately after the first time you hit them, and it can only emulate alignments and substances. It can't beat /epic, for instance.

So, if you attack something that has DR/adamantine, and the last thing you hit had DR/cold iron, then your weapon will count as cold iron until you hit your new target, at which time it will change to emulate adamantine.

Just so you know, Powerful Build and Monkey Grip do not stack.  Both of them say you can use weapons one size category larger than yourself, not simply larger than you can use normally.

Also, for those who were looking at Shadow Striking in ToM, the Transmuting weapon property on page 45 in the MiC is effectively the same thing but only a +2 instead of +3.  If you want to interpret the wording loosely, it might also bypass DR/Epic because it technically does overcome any DR.
