Find the Path
« on: October 31, 2012, 11:36:28 AM »
I need a way for an 8th level gestalt PC in Eberron to reliably and frequently cast (or otherwise utilize) the Find the Path spell.  It does not have to be that spell exactly, but if there is an item that duplicates the effect, or a creature that has that innate ability, etc.

Classes for the gestalt can be from pretty much anything besides Faerun.  Ideas or suggestions?

  • A staff containing 50 charges of find the path would cost 49,500gp to buy, 24,750gp to make.
  • A minor schema of a 6th level spell, like find the path, would cost 26,400gp to buy, 13,200gp to make.

A friendly artificer might be able to provide either at reduced cost.  UMD would be required in either case if the character in question does not have
find the path on his spell list.

Our wealth is capped at no more than 10,000 GP for a single item.  But maybe with an artificer I could manage to get that schema price down.  Hmm...  The only bad part about being item based is that those can be stolen.

Can warforged embed schema into their own bodies?

Why specifically Find the Path?
Locate City would work if the locale you're looking for is a city.  Locate Node might work, if you're lucky enough to be looking for a place with an Earth Node.  There are a variety of other spells that find specific areas but are lower level than Find the Path.
Heck, you probably have access to Scrying by now, and Teleport comes online next level.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

I'm trying to fulfill the roll / archetype of "Pathfinder".  We're tromping through the jungles of Xen'drik.  So no cities to locate, no one specific to scry on, and not likely any nodes.

But if there are similar spells to Find the Path, I'd love to hear them.  I just thought that literally being able to Find the Path would make an ideal Pathfinder.

It's not Find the Path, but the 4th level alternate class feature for Rangers from Complete Champion allows you to use Commune with Nature once per day.  At least gets you some info on the area.

That might actually work great.  And I really like the Speak with Animals & Speak with Plants ACF for the Ranger as well.  I'd completely forgotten about those.  Thanks, KSB!
