My New Favorite Beguiler Race (Shut up, PF and 3.5 are compatable. :P )

Yes Please!!!  I'll take Samsaran with Mystic Past Life for the win of filling in Beguiler spell list weakness.

Samsarans are so good I would use them for an Oracle, a charisma based caster. Really any full spell caster should be a Samasaran.

The only thing that rivals them for adding spells (in pathfinder) is Paragon Surging for Improved Eldritch Heritage (arcane bloodline) for some Sorcerer/Wizard spells.

Yeah, I was looking to play one of those in an upcoming game but since the DM is looking to only go to around 12th level I think I may do something else. 

Of course Paragon Surge still gets you access to all your class list spells by 6th level through Expanded Arcana so that part may still be a go. 

But as far as super nice and simple way to shore up limited casting lists Samsarans rock.

I assume that is the reason they mean.

+2 Int, +2 Wis and the nice Racial spell feature.  It is very nice but I wouldn't think it flying book worthy.

No, you're right. It's not. It matters one-in-twenty rolls. I guess you'll get a handful of bonus spell slots at high level, but that's about it.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something else other than the spell picking. Still, that is a really nice racial ability.

Interestingly as nice as the ability is for various Pathfinder classes I like it most with old 3.5 classes in the Dread Necro, Warmage, Beguiler vein.

Depending on the leeway a DM gives it could be used to get early access to some spells which I'm sure some think warrants book throwing as well.  Oh no, the Sorcerer has Haste from Summoner list as a 2nd level spell!!!  Oh no the Sorcerer has Cure Light Wounds from the Bard list!!!

There are a *lot* of very nice 3.5 spells that could cause problems with a GM who's not up on optimized characters.
