Quori Ectoplasmic Armor Shard
« on: November 01, 2012, 02:19:57 PM »
Just starting to read the psionic (and thus Eberron) stuff since the Tashalatora (sp?) feat seems to be the only way to get greater flurry without actually being stuck in Monk until level 11. Kalashtar has the wrong favored class for a PsiWar/Monk, but these crystals seem pretty damned useful if they don't count as being armoured for a monk (so does the fist one). So, is there an actual ruling on them either being or not being considered as wearing armour?

These crystals, just like the inertial armor power and the mage armor spell, do not count as armor. Why would they?

They mention armour check penalties and speed reduction (in that they don't have any) which seemed unusual for non-armour armour bonus items.

Agreed, that is pretty strange. Still, while they say that it is a *material, physical object* it says nothing about being treated as armor.

Actually, now that I'm reading that section closer, I realize that they'd have to be activated individually, at a standard action each. (unless one wants to be running around the adventure with a looking like some sort of ghost monster)

Eberron Campaign Setting 263. There's a few different crystals that a Kalashtar can permanently embed for a 1 HP loss. Each one has to be activated / deactivated with a standard actions, and they all - at the very least - glow when active. Leaving the ectoplasmic fist glowing in the hand at all times is one thing; but the ectoplasmic armor causes you to look like a very scary monster.

wow, weak search-fu. i even searched that book and still missed it. =P

yeah, i guess it is a "material, physical object" that has no other effect other than to grant an armor bonus. ^^

nice. i'll have to remember those.

That actually should be encouraged in all cases.
