OA had a whole bunch of "counts as" feats
and class abilities.  While this is homegame-ish,
it's not like this Mariner is gonna screw things up.

Well, unless the character is a horny pirate, then some things might get "screwed up."

I'm adding it to the Dipping minihandbook as a source of exotic proficiency :-D
It's good that you added the part about the bonus feat as well. Because sometimes the two feats from fighter 2 is not enough, and fighter 2/mariner 1/X 1 is better than fighter 4 to get that feat.  :D

Yeah, and sometimes you really need 6/lv SP or 2 good saves and a feat in one level. I first ran across Mariner searching for a way to qualify for Auspician from Faiths and Pantheons.

Like Rokugan Ninja and Marshal, Mariner is a good dip. It's just the other 19 levels that suck.

Plus unlike the common Fighter feat dip alternatives (Monk, Psychic Warrior, Feat Rogue), Mariner won't cost your a point of BAB.

T5 (the other T5) to the rescue! Change it to a 5-level class with the following as its Special column:
Level 1: Bonus feat, dirty strike +1d4, sailor lore, seamanship +1
Level 2: Back-to-back +1, dirty strike +2d4, seamanship +2
Level 3: Bonus feat, dirty strike +3d4, seamanship +3
Level 4: Back-to-back +2, dirty strike +4d4, seamanship +4
Level 5: Bonus feat, dirty strike +5d4, seamanship +5

Compared to the whole 20-level class, it's missing 2 bonus feats and +3 to its Back-to-back. I'm not sure if it would even hurt to give it the full Back-to-back, but I erred very slightly on the side of caution.

*This is what I converted it to last December/January when I did the T5 document (think E6, but 5, and buffing low-tier classes significantly and eliminating dead levels), which I need to update and reupload.

Indeed. My post was meant to mention the full BAB, but it seems I missed it.  :)
