Stone Body and interesting implications and spell interactions
« on: February 22, 2013, 04:18:52 PM »
Here is an interesting clause from Stone Body (SpC):
Quote
If you are targeted with transmute rock to mud, you are slowed for 2d6 rounds with no saving throw.  A transmute mud to rock heals you of all your lost hit points.
Granted it takes two spells of 6th and 5th levels, but it is basically an arcane self-heal.  That second sentence is pretty damn cool (especially for dragons), and doesn't have any limit on how much it heals you.

Now, the first sentence... how would that interact with haste?  If you were already hasted when hit with transmute rock to mud?  What if you are slowed from TRtM, and then cast haste on yourself?

Since haste and slow counter each other, I'd probably just say that if already hasted and TRtM hit you then the haste would be countered and you'd go back to not being hasted.  Switch it up for casting haste while being affected by TRtM.

That's what I figured; just wanted to know if the echo chamber agreed  :P

You could just become a member of the master race.

Warforged Wizards can just Repair them selves as is.

That's not even remotely as useful as being able to cure yourself of all hit point damage with a standard action. I'm not aware of a way to do that short of using an epic spell in 3.5. And Stone Body is a pretty solid buff, even without that. ;)
I don't pee messages into the snow often , but when I do , it's in Cyrillic with Fake Viagra.  Stay frosty my friends.

Another spell interaction question from Stone Body:
Quote
Your speed is reduced to one-half normal
Would this be overcome by Freedom of Movement?

Quote
This spell enables you or a creature you touch to move and attack normally for the duration of the spell, even under the influence of magic that usually impedes movement
Stone Body slows your moment; is that not "magic that ... impedes movement?"

Only if Stone Body is magic impeding movement, I presume, and not a normal, base state (can't remember if it's a feat or what).

It is a spell, similar to Iron Body from core.  You become stone, gain DR, immunity to lots of things, and also your speed is reduced to half.

Looks like Freedom of Movement should work, then, even though you're not restricted, just so damn massive that movement must be hell.

With "Stone Body" it's hard to figure out what's causing the movement loss: the spell itself? or the new body mass (a, sort of, "encumbrance" effect)?

With nothing else to go on, by RAW, it appears that the spell itself is causing the loss of movement, so yes, "Freedom of Movement" would apply.
