Equipment and spells for a 3rd level druid

I need help with equipment and spell selection for a 3rs level druid. The campaign limits me to just one magic item. I've started, but now I'm stuck. The character is focused on summoning, especially vermin, and he'll eventually go blind once I can find a way to midigate the worst of the penalties.

2) Now you can afford armor and shield.

3) I know the dogs are a lot cooler, but mules have almost as good stats and are a lot cheaper.
