diplomancer 3.5
« on: May 12, 2013, 10:38:34 PM »
So my DM is starting a political intrigue campaign that's heavy on the roleplaying. I want to be the kind of character that gets people to do things for me. I was thinking a rogue of bard would be good for that but i was wondering if you guys have any better classes for me. One of the others is already a beguiler so i want to avoid that if possible.

Also any advice on feats or equipment?

- Marshal dip with motivate charisma aura.
- Circlet or persuasion item.
- If you are exalted, there is that feat about having a fey lover that gives you skill points and +2 to charisma based checks.

edit:
unseelie fey template is implied to be LA+0 by the example character in dragon compendium.  This is pretty cheesy, but gives any character a nice charisma bonus.

Urban druid (Dragon 317, p30) gives you a bonus equal to your wis modifier on bluff, diplomacy, gather information, and intimidate in your favored cities.  Note that urban druid uses cha as a casting stat, despite being a prepared caster.

The truth domain (Races of Eberron, p181) gives you a bonus on sense motive equal to your cleric level.  The domain focus alternative class feature (Dragon 347, p91) doubles the bonus from a domain.  You lose your other domain and the ability to cast cure or inflict spells spontaneously.

Master Ambassador from Age of Mortals gains +2 when in his chosen political environment (he can increase it later, or choose different areas)

He can also use sense motive to make a lore-like knowledge check on the guys he spends 10 minutes talking to - learning what they want and how they think.

Also bonuses to leadership score.

That's pretty much all that class has however, so you better have some allies if the adventure suddenly turns fighty.

Binder is well worth considering.  Naberius lets you take 10 on Diplomacy checks and make them as a standard action, while other vestiges can also boost diplomacy (one gives +4, for example).  If you can use the divine adaptation of Anima Mage, consider Binder 1/Urban Druid 4/Anima Mage 10/Tenebrous Apostate 5 as an interesting and creative Diplomacy centered character.

Warlock dips can also be handy for the +6 bonus.

Dragonfire adepts get Voice of the Dragon which functions similarly to the warlock one.

edit: I find it amusing that one way to build a dip-lomancer involves a lot of dips. :)
Binder 1/Marshal1/Warlock1/Dragonfire Adept 1 would be 0 BAB but some pretty crazy social skill bonuses.

Of course getting access to Glibness as soon as possible is also nice.  With good charisma, UMD is easy though. :)

Half-Fey 1 gets at-will Charm Person and 1/day Hypnosis.

Psi can kinda do Diplomancy with Psi Charm
+ Telempathic Projection = not quite Fanatic,
throw in Charm Mantle MGA for extra juice.

Need to get Tongues spell and/or Mindbender 1.

On the other hand, it has the disadvantage of very awkward family reunions.

thanks for the replies. Would there be any changes to the templates from half to quarter? Are the bonuses just halved from what they would be along with the LA? It sounds like a lot of fun but just using the half templates results in a level adjustment of 8
