[Fighter] only stuff - anything I'm missing?
« on: April 19, 2013, 07:14:22 AM »
Weapon Specialization.
A bunch of feats from PHB II (e.g. weapon supremacy).
Fighter alternative class features from various books + complete champion + PHB II 'feat'-like alternative options.

Weapon Specialization
Melee Weapon Mastery
Greater Weapon Focus
Greater Weapon Specialization
Weapon Supremacy

And Fighter ACFs

And yet, a Fighter is still better than a Barbarian.

Straight? Well barbarians have a few cool tricks (e.g. that ranged ACF with ranger weapon techniques and pounce from level 1), but having rage a limited amount of times a day is a big turnoff.

Dragon options:

Fighters also get tower shields (or any one exotic shield from Races of Stone) for free. Not exclusive, but cheap.

Anyone care to comment on complete champion and player's handbook 2 ACFs? I'll post mine later, because I'm in a hurry right now.

This is a little 'meta', but fighters share with PsyWars exclusive access to any feat chain or combination of feats which includes fighter feats involving:
Two feats at level 1
Three feats at level 2
Four feats at level 3

For humans or those with qualifying racial bonus feats, n = n + 1. For selling your soul to an Elder Evil, n = n +1, for combinations involving vile feats. For games with Flaws permitted, n = n + 2. Many others can get bonus feats that aren't nearly as freely choosable and are thus much harder to set up combos with, like monks and clerics (domain devotion feats). Fighters have *truly* exclusive-within-level access to feat chains that have EWP, Quick Draw, Weapon Finesse, or Weapon Focus at their base, since PsyWars don't qualify for them at 1st.

At 4th level and up, things get mucked up again with Heroics, Mirror Move, Feat Leech, Embrace/Shun the Dark Chaos, and WBL starting to get high enough to afford things like Otyugh Holes.

So, for instance, in a 1st-level game with flaws, a human fighter would have access to the Jotunbrud/EWP:Spiked Chain/Combat Expertise/Improved Trip/Combat Reflexes combo that would be exclusive to them *at that level*: some other character could eventually complete it, but not until later.

Are we getting a Fighter handbook?

If so, yay!.

I was updating the old one and it was awful, there wasn't much information. So I'm thinking of changing it up a bit.

That and giving people advice on how much you need to go into fighter before getting prestige classes/using ToB.

Weapon Specialization.
A bunch of feats from PHB II (e.g. weapon supremacy).

Just an FYI, Warblades (Tome of Battle) can also qualify for these feats

TOB, p22
Quote
Weapon Aptitude (Ex): Your training with a wide range
of weaponry and tactics gives you great skill with particular
weapons. You qualify for feats that usually require a minimum
number of fighter levels (such as Weapon Specialization) as
if you had a fighter level equal to your warblade level –2.

So can Ninjas with a feat and Martial Weapon Proficiency.

Never change, Martial Stalker, never change (yep, Human Ninja with Militia and Martial Stalker, in a game with Flaws... can get off any two feat combo that a PsyWar would be able to, if the PsyWar could take Fighter-only feats...)

Straight? Well barbarians have a few cool tricks (e.g. that ranged ACF with ranger weapon techniques and pounce from level 1), but having rage a limited amount of times a day is a big turnoff.
A limited form of Favored Enemy comes in Feat form and TWF/Archery is Fighter Bonus. Also Pounce is worthless at level 1 without Racially granted Natural Weapons of 1/day Whirling Weapon. And don't get me wrong, dipping Barb really is an easy way to obtain Pounce, but you can buy it and don't even need it for one-hit KOs.

I even have my doubts about Trapkiller (barb acf). You can search for Traps using Survival, but at -5. You have the Ranks capped, but Wisdom? And -5? Plus the disable section is a joke. Attack Roll > Disable DC and only works on traps you could disable by beating them with a hammer anyway. Except when attacking an object you auto hit...

Anyway, Overpowering Attack is one of those horrible ACFs. Full-Round Action to make a single attack that deals double damage.
You're a 16th level Fighter when you obtain it.
Enough said.

... or maybe it's their Cohort's Cohort.

I subscribe to all of these thoughts. I don't see a barbarian as being fighters equal - its clearly why they rage.
I appreciate the logical, cool-headed responses and the lack of profanity displayed by our community.
