Optimizing a ridiculous character concept [Epic][Gestalt]
« on: May 09, 2013, 02:08:44 AM »
There's a character idea I had a while ago, before I had any idea about optimization (also, it was a 3.25 character). It was an epic/gestalt (because...why not?  :D). Now that I have some more experience with/exposure to CharOp, I was thinking about updating that concept.

Original Build:
Half Githzerai / Half Buomman (MotP), Native to Astral Plane

Monk 10 / Psion 10
Monk 10 / Illithid Slayer 10
Planar Champion 10 (MotP) / Psion 10

Vow of Poverty, with one exception:  For background/fluff reasons, he carries a Githyanki Silver Sword, which he can only - and MUST - use when fighting against Illithids or Githyanki.

Illithid Slayer and Planar Champion were more for fluff than anything else, I think. If I remember correctly (it's been several years since I looked at them), they had a few cool abilities, but weren't that great from an optimization standpoint.

Possible replacements:
Monk -> Unarmed Swordsage
Psion -> Psion
Planar Champion -> Planeswalker (Outer)
Illithid Slayer -> ?

Also, I'm assuming I should take some kind of initiating prestige class (or a 21st level of Swordsage) so I can take Epic Martial Disciplines!!

List of possible disciplines:

Thoughts?  Suggestions?

The tashalatora feat (Secrets of Sarlona) should still work in gestalt.  Monk and psion levels taken at the same character level should probably be ruled to overlap.  Anyway, the point isn't getting 20th level monk abilities by 10th level; it's freeing your options up a little more.  With that feat taking care of unarmed stuff, you can switch swordsage to warblade.

Zen Fundamentalist? I'm going to be writing ACFs for discipline swaps... Slayer is one of the better psi prcs, Sanctified Mind is good too.

Hell, if you're mixing in Planeswalker, then rock out with a ZF+Planeswalker+Psykin.

On one side, assuming you're level 21+:
Monk 2 / Erudite 10 / Slayer 9 (but not 10!)
most likely Martial Monk + tash
most likely Spell To Power, needs a buddy Wiz
SRD Slayer is better than Illithid Slayer
That's good enough, or at least ought to be.

Other side is open to whatever ...
