Stoneblessed Class
« on: May 16, 2013, 04:34:37 PM »
Just curious about this... would a Gnome qualify for the Stoneblessed class from Races of Stone, and be able to take Gnome as his stoneblessed class? I see no reason why they cant... At 2nd level they would gain a +4 dodge bonus to Giants... that being a dodge bonus, would it not stack with their racial +4 dodge bonus to Giants? Would this be worth taking for the boost to AC from the Titan Fighting feat?

Yes they can, the gaining gnome subtype part doesn't do anything

it would stack since its technically a different ability, despite being basically an identical ability

Yeah... was just talking about taking 2 levels anyways.. thx for the response :)

Think it would be worth it? I'm playing a Gnome Rogue/Monk that will be taking Titan Fighting and Improved Dodge which will give me my racial bonus to all attackers..not just one.

Further... the Giantfoe feat from AEG feats book states that your dodge bonus against giants increases
to +8.... says nothing about racial.. so would that apply to both? Effectively giving you a +16 dodge bonus against all enemies if using Titan Fighting and Improved dodge? I would have to take 3rd level in Stoneblessed and have Dwarf be my subtype though, since being a Dwarf is a pre-requisite of Giantfoe..

Unfortunately, Titan Fighting specifies 'racial dodge bonuses' so you get the +8 from race/stoneblessed but not from Giantbane

not sure about GiantFOE, but if it says 'racial' than it works for both (+8 race, +8 class =+16)

edit: found it. Yeah it works as I mentioned, giving you a +16 racial dodge to AC

symbiotic gnome/half-ogre dwarf stoneblessed gives you +24 :P

Wicked  :clap Thanks for the input zook ...
Though if I use this I have a feeling the DM will have every rogue within 5 square miles catching me flat footed to teach me a lesson..

So get some levels in a class that grants Uncanny Dodge?

Or you could work with your DM on an interpretation that won't leave your DM wondering how to effectively challenge your AC and thus have to resort to such things as making every encounter have at least one enemy that can make you flat-footed.

Yeah, that kind of double stacking can get scary.

Check out the ubermount as the epitome of this kind of stacking.

Just had another thought... Could you technically take this class 3 times? Once for Stoneblessed:Dwarf, once for Stoneblessed:Gnome, and once for Stoneblessed:Goliath? Take two levels of each (except Dwarf, to qualify for Giantfoe) and effectively have a +8 racial dodge bonus from race, and a +8 from each of the 3 classes... Is that even possible? Seems like it could be, though you'd be somewhat of a one trick pony...

AC isn't a great 1 trick pony, especially since a lot of powerful things can completely ignore it. (Save or dies, for example).

I'm under the impression that prestige classes would be like feats: If it doesn't say you can take it more than once, you can't.

Good point Jack... never even thought of a class in that way, though I also don't know of a class where you have 3 different versions that you can take either (Just saying that I don't know of them... not that they don't exist..) Also, I know there are several things that dont use AC like the save or die effects, but are there any other specific examples of things that ignore a dodge bonus to ac?

There are some things that will prevent you from benefiting from the dodge bonus.  Flat-footed is obviously one, balancing unless you have 5 ranks in balance is another, climbing is yet another, and so on.  Basically anything which will deny your Dex bonus to AC (besides wearing armor) will deny you the Dodge bonuses too.

For the sanity of the game, I don't recommend even thinking about the PrC as three separate versions.

Yeah.. I'm not contemplating actually doing this, just found it and wanted to know if I had hit on something or not. Purely hypothetical  :) Again... thanks all for your input!
