[Pathfinder] Help with a PvP character
« on: July 13, 2013, 12:46:02 PM »
Hey, because we had some time to kill me and the other people in my campaign are running a PvP session for some fun. It will probably be pure combat so anything that applies to out of combat situations may be of no use whatsoever.

We are playing Pathfinder and are allowed to use any first party books. We all have to play level 10s with a 20 point buy and 66k starting gold. It is highly likely that we will be able to buff before combat starts as well.

Luckily the other players told me they are playing an alchemist, a dragon disciple, and an Anti-Paladin. Unfortunately, I don't know any specifics about there characters, but I'm the only one who min/maxes in the group so they won't be anything amazing.

In terms of a character I was thinking something with excellent battlefield control would be fun because my party thinks in terms of pure damage output and it be fun to abuse a controller. Sorry if i'm way too vague with this, but I tend to build martial classes and have never worked with classes that have great potential for controlling the field.

Of course, if there is any characters that would obviously excel in this situation I would be completely open to I don't expect anyone to go to in depth with items put if there's anything essential it would be great if you could recommend it.

Thanks in advance for any help I get.

In my opinion (and rather surprisingly) the best PvP option in Pathfinder is the Summoner - as long as you're a Synestheist (sp?) archetype. By level 10, you can be immune to all five types of energy damage, and have 20%+ concealment all the time (from Shadow Body evolution), just from evolutions. Though I'm sure you could be just as untouchable as a wizard.

...

I really like Summoners, though.

I agree with the class choice, but I think that Master Summoner will work out better for PvP. Try to find out what alignments your opponents are, and be true neutral. Drop 1d3+1 celestial/fiendish/chaotic/resolute tigers, giant scorpions, or rhinoceri on them every turn via your Spell-Like... oh, and you can have multiples active due to archetype as long as the Eidolon isn't out.

You get Augment Summoning automatically at 2nd level in this archetype, grab Superior at level 3 and make sure to max your initiative as soon as you can. CHA just has to be 14 or higher. Divert the two allowed points of Aspect from the eidolon then ignore the fact that it exists... or better yet, start with it out and give it an intimidating form, have it charge suicidally on the opener to give you a turn. Once it drops, again, you get repeatable Summon Monster 5 until you get almost enough template tigers to go into swarm rules (7 casts if you just take 14 CHA, which given 20 point-buy will likely happen).
