Reel em in!
« on: August 23, 2013, 08:16:16 PM »
Is there any way to bring enemies to you (to then follow up with standard AoO lockdown tactics or something similar) ?

My first thought was some sort of ranged reverse bullrush with Bloodstorm Blade, but I don't see an easy way of getting the "reverse" part of that besides ricocheting a weapon off an enemy behind my desired target through Blood Wind Ricochet.

I'm willing to look at anything 3.5/PF/Dragon Mag, but would prefer to keep the methods non magical.

What do you guys think of this idea? Cool? Impractical?

Edit: Solved for the most part. The harpoon in the pfsrd seems to be the most viable solution here.
Thank you for the replies!

There's the Harpoon... If you stick a rope in the weapon, you can hamper the target's movement... or Pull him closer to you.

This can be found in Stormwrack or Frostburn, IIRC...

Weapon of Greater Earth Elemental Summoning + Bull Rush? xD

Evocation school actually has a bunch of ways to bullrush people in arbitrary directions.

It seems the harpoons in Frostburn and Stormwrack don't actually have rules for reeling in opponents (or for what happens if you harpoon them outside of the arbitrary 30ft rope range for that matter). Seems like a solid backup plan if paired with a 30ft reach maybe.

I'll do a search for any harpoon related feats.

I was more hoping to accomplish this without too much magic, though the earth elemental idea might also work with Trickery Devotion.

Thanks for the replies!

Yeah, lasso and net won't, but kelpstrand might, just make a grapple check to move them?

Haven't looked, but off the top of my head, check the Rod of Ropes from I think Complete Scoundrel?  May have some use. Combine with a Grasping Claw I think from Dungeonscape? Not sure if it would work or not, but might be worth checking out.

Just hook the harpoon up to a spool of endless rope to swing more distance, and the rules are that if you make a Strength check, you can control the movement of the target you've 'pooned - I'd say that's dragging 'em, though how far is your DM's call.

Another fun one I like is to stick an Immovable Rod either IN the harpoon or on the other end of the rope.  Stick it and click it - instant dog on a chain!
