Pot-O’-Gold: All Leprechauns have a pot of gold that travels with them everywhere they go, containing the essence of the Leprechaun's luck, in the form of a handful of gold coins. This essence gives the Leprechaun a luck bonus to his attacks, saves, and skill checks based on his hit dice, as shown in the table below. Beginning at 6HD, the Leprechaun gains bonus Luck rerolls as shown in the table below. At 10HD, all allies within 5’/HD gain the effect of the Leprechaun’s luck bonus/2. The pot floats with its owner, always staying within 10'/HD, is incorporeal, and is invisible to all, save its own Leprechaun. (The default location is directly behind the Leprechaun, floating just off the ground, but he may take a move action to move the pot up to his base speed in any direction, as long as it stays within the distance limit, and it will stay in that relative position until the Leprechaun takes another action to move it.) The pot may be detected with
Arcane Sight, See Invisibility, True Sight, and the like.
Anyone who can detect the pot, and is within reach of it, may attempt a Sleight of Hand check (DC = 10 + Leprechaun’s HD + Leprechaun’s ChaMod). If they are successful, they grab the lucky coins. While in possession of the Leprechaun’s coins, the possessor gains the luck bonus (and rerolls) instead of the Leprechaun. At 7HD, instead of the luck bonus, the possessor may choose to get the effect of a “Minor Wish.” Treat this effect as a
Limited Wish, except that all duplicated spell levels are 3 lower (i.e. duplicating any Sorcerer/Wizard spell of 3rd level or lower, instead of 6th or lower, etc.). When the Leprechaun is 15HD, the possessor may instead choose to gain the effect of
Limited Wish. When the Leprechaun is 20HD, the possessor may instead choose to gain the effect of
Wish. Any XP costs are paid by the possessor. The Leprechaun is automatically aware of all attempts to steal from his pot of gold, successful or unsuccessful, and may take an attack of opportunity against the thief, even if he does not have any attacks of opportunity remaining in the round, and even if he is not actively threatening the thief. After a successful Sleight of Hand attempt, the pot is empty (meaning no morale bonus or additional luck rerolls for the Leprechaun) until a number of hours has passed equal to the Leprechaun’s HD, at which point the coins automatically disappear from their current possessor - meaning they lose any bonuses - and the pot regains its coins, with the Leprechaun regaining the bonuses. If the possessor chose to gain the benefit of a (Minor/Limited) Wish, then the coins immediately disappear. However the pot does not refill until the expected number of hours have passed. If the (Minor/Limited) Wish option was not used, the Leprechaun may attempt to steal back the coins and put them back into the pot, in which case he regains the benefit of the luck bonuses and rerolls immediately.
Leprechauns are slimy little buggers, incredibly hard to capture and keep. All of the following happen simultaneously with the Leprechaun's pot refilling, and any abilities duplicating spells function even in areas of no magic (CL=HD): at 3HD all malignant mind-affecting spells and effects currently affecting the Leprechaun are automatically ended. At 8HD, the Leprechaun gains the benefit of
Freedom of Movement. At 13HD, the Leprechaun is automatically affected by the
Freedom spell, and at 18HD he may choose to gain the benefit of
Greater Teleport or
Plane Shift.
