[3.5/PF] Fast Simulacrum Shenanigans
« on: December 09, 2013, 06:55:49 AM »
Hi everyone! i was reading the old boards when i encountered "Destroying The Core" a good reading but the 2nd cheese Creature Stacking via Simulacrum is missing, so i was thinking to rebuild it into a fast-access and playable version, as we can do for Mr. Roboto.  Now aviable also for pathfinder (and even better!)

D&D 3.5

Assuming first Core-Only envirorment , we start from the Spell: Simulacrum

Quote
Simulacrum
Illusion (Shadow)
Level:   Sor/Wiz 7
Components:   V, S, M, XP
Casting Time:   12 hours
Range:   0 ft.
Effect:   One duplicate creature
Duration:   Instantaneous
Saving Throw:   None
Spell Resistance:   No
Simulacrum creates an illusory duplicate of any creature. The duplicate creature is partially real and formed from ice or snow. It appears to be the same as the original, but it has only one-half of the real creature’s levels or Hit Dice (and the appropriate hit points, feats, skill ranks, and special abilities for a creature of that level or HD). You can’t create a simulacrum of a creature whose Hit Dice or levels exceed twice your caster level. You must make a Disguise check when you cast the spell to determine how good the likeness is. A creature familiar with the original might detect the ruse with a successful Spot check (opposed by the caster’s Disguise check) or a DC 20 Sense Motive check.

At all times the simulacrum remains under your absolute command. No special telepathic link exists, so command must be exercised in some other manner. A simulacrum has no ability to become more powerful. It cannot increase its level or abilities. If reduced to 0 hit points or otherwise destroyed, it reverts to snow and melts instantly into nothingness. A complex process requiring at least 24 hours, 100 gp per hit point, and a fully equipped magical laboratory can repair damage to a simulacrum.

Material Component
The spell is cast over the rough snow or ice form, and some piece of the creature to be duplicated (hair, nail, or the like) must be placed inside the snow or ice. Additionally, the spell requires powdered ruby worth 100 gp per HD of the simulacrum to be created.

XP Cost
100 XP per HD of the simulacrum to be created (minimum 1,000 XP).

To have it early the way to go it's the base Simulacrum Scroll from the DMG for 7275gp where we need to add 900gp for a 10HD summoning. Totals: 8175gp

for WealthByLevel we reach 9000gp @5th so let's say that's our starting point.

From now 2 ways are possible: A Wizard/Sorcer or B Rogue UMD way..

The Wizard way.. for wizard casting the spell form a scroll it's all clear (spell of the right type (arcane), on his spell list, and a sufficent ability score [17]) exception for the caster level.
The wizard having CL 5 has to succeed a caster level check DC CasterLevel(13) => DC14 that's 1d20 + His caster level..
* by core isn't possible take 10, so we have to increse CL to 13 to +13, otherwise adding Complete Arcane we can use Arcane mastery [thx Kasz for the Hint] to take 10 and make the day ;).

Core-Only the cheapest way is taking a level on Cleric (avoidinig umd) to use 10 Death Knell scrolls (too expensive for the 875gp remaining wealth wealth [150gp x 10 = 1500 gp]) killing 10 commoners.

For the Rogue UMD the rule it's 20 + Caster Level (13) = 33
way we start with:
1 (dice, can't take 10), +3 (average Cha mod.), +8 (max ranks) +2 Perfect Gears (goggles?) + 4 sinergy (Spellcraft, Dechiper ) +3 Skill Focus +2 Magical Aptitude = 23

* note that with 9000 wealth the maxium simulacrum HD is 11 for 25x7x13 = 2275gp + 1100gp + 5500gp = 8875gp

Advices?

Another cheesy way could be a custom made Wondrous Item Single use, use-activated (like a necklace of fireball, with one sphere)
Costs are: 50gp x 7 x 13 = 4.550 gp + 1000 gp (material costs) +5000gp (1000xp x 5gp) = 10550gp somewhere between 5th and 6th and with a supereasy activation.

Be the 6th level the maxium with 13000gp and writing down a simple equation
50 x 7 x A + 100 A x 500 A = 13000
where A is the CL= Simulacrum HD (due to the x2 CL maxiumum creature HD of the spell and then dividing x 2 for simulacrum's HD)

we see that the maximum aviable simulacrum's HD is 13 for 12350gp with no item activation issues [activate bindly dc 25, or 100gp for identify].

Assuming the Use-Activated way we could have a dv13 (+7dv) trall at our disposal. Without any errata Simulacrum don't count any L.A. and respective ECL, so we can stich some template ( Half Dragon / Half Fiend / Lich or Ghost ) for ultimate cheese, and get some book trown at you.

You can't create a simulacrum of a creature whose HD or levels exceed twice your caster level. You must make a Disguise check when you cast the spell to determine how good the likeness is. A creature familiar with the original might detect the ruse with a successful Perception check (opposed by the caster's Disguise check) or a DC 20 Sense Motive check.

At all times, the simulacrum remains under your absolute command. No special telepathic link exists, so command must be exercised in some other manner. A simulacrum has no ability to become more powerful. It cannot increase its level or abilities. Is Pathfinder a panacea for 3.5 tricks?Does a reduced number of books prevent abuses? the answer is no.

Thx for the little WBL increase of pathfinder [6000gp@4th and 10500gp@5th] and of the new spell components wording [500gp x HD] we can create a 7HD Simulacrum @4th level [for 2275(scroll)+3500(components)gp] and a 13HD Simulacrum @5th level [2275+6500gp] - and so on - just taking 10 at the casterl level check for using a scroll (assuming our pg is a Wizard/Sorcer)

Your Thoughts? What simulacrum will you make?

To make the wizard method work, just take 10 on that caster level check.
