Composite +0 Bows?
« on: February 28, 2014, 12:25:53 PM »
For the amount of money that you put into it, can someone tell me what the point of having a composite +0 bow is? The +1 and up I know all about, but why would someone take a +0 bow over a standard bow? They both add +0 Str to the damage. Is it upgradable? Is that it?

You get an extra 10 feet per range increment with a composite bow, and, unlike regular longbows, you can use composite longbows while mounted. I don't think you can upgrade them, though, as they talk about being made with a specific Strength rating, and the rules for upgrading items are only for adding magic to them. For an extra 25 gp, it can sometimes be worth it for a composite longbow (especially if you're a mounted archer), but I don't think the extra range alone is worth it for 45 gp with a shortbow, even with its much lower baseline range.

Waayyy back in previous editions,
there're those guys that wanna give
historical realism to various things.

You tell me what the diff is between
a Long Sword and a Broad Sword?

Anyways, it'd be easier to design
one general category "bow" and then
have a bunch of wee-difference mods.

Ranged = X , Bow has +3 to load speed,
Horsebow = -3 to range, can use mounted,
Crossbow has -3 to ammo cost, easier training.
Something like that.
