What if I eat my familiar?
« on: February 27, 2014, 06:46:11 PM »
Let's say I took 1,000 gp of familiar summoning materials into the desert.
Let's say I eat my familiar for food then summon another one to eat tomorrow, at what point do the familiars stop showing up?

I don't think they know you ate the last one.

Presumably, your familiar dies when you eat it.  You have to wait a year and a day after your familiar dies to get a new one, so you'll be very hungry.

Don't you also need to provide the animal to become your familiar? I know in certain instances it specifies needing the animal.

What about if I get improved familiar, sell them one at a time to a exotic critter reseller for more then 100 gp each, then keep summoning more every 24 hours. Assuming I don't mention I'm selling them for cash, is there any limit to how often you can do this? Or, like you said, the previous familiars don't know.

Selling your familiar doesn't stop it from being your familiar.  You'd still need to dismiss it to be able to summon a new one.  Dismissed familiars also can't be replaced for a year and a day.

Yeah, the real thing that's stopping you is the year and a day thing. If you found a way to bypass that (like a deity's familiar ability), you'd be able to do it.
