So, as you can probably tell, I'm rather new here. I found this place by accident, but I'm hoping you all can help. (I plan to stick around regardless)
The thing is, I'm really bad at puzzle making, not sure why. I have a fantastic idea for a puzzle though, I just don't know how to go about making it. So here is the basics:
The players enter a room, the entrances are suddenly engulfed in powerful fire and the doors are sealed. (Fire elemental labyrinth)
A large board rises up in the center of the room, broken into eight pieces, each one representing two locations within a season. Along with this, the board contains five figures: A princess, a wizard, a demon, a knight, and a dwarf. A voice speaks up, beginning to the tell the players a story. The task: Move the correct figures to the proper spot for each piece of the story. The negatives: A statue in the center of the board will blast them for 6d6 of damage when they make a mistake. (Higher level puzzle)
The problem: I am having a really hard time telling them the story in a way that is vague enough to make them think what piece to move where, but challenging enough to not just give away the story.
So there we have it, I'm actually pretty embarrassed because I consider myself a pretty good writer, but I guess maybe this is just too vague for what I usually do? I'd appreciate any help, maybe suggestions on how to write it, or a way to think about it that would flow easier.
