Slightly different tack, is to not need to carry a something
with you at all.  Psi Minor Creation as a for instance.
Also, the Robe Of Useful Items.
Your codpiece is a mimic.

Here's an alternative to Bag's of Holding from Dragon 329: Dragonskin Bag of Grendel.  For 18k you get 1500 lbs of holding, the items are shrunk to 1/16th scale rather than in nondimensional space.  Its really just a refluffed bag of holding IV without the boom side effect.

And yeah, Enveloping Pit is awesome.  3600 gp for a 10x10x50 foot space.  LN (or not-chaotic evils) or UMD 30 to use.  (Or say and Imp or Formian Worker Improved Familiar, or a skeleton.)  Can be opened as little as 1 foot for air.  Totally sweet.  Bivouac and storage all in one.

Or for the high level, Ring gates.  Leave one at home.  Slip through in a portable hole carried by a little familiar, or make two trips.

Leomund's Secure Shelter Is nice. And if I remember correctly, you can just spell stitch it onto an undead pet.

As I had reported in my prior post ...

http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=13021.msg224061#msg224061

... I had chosen Leomund's Hidden Lodge for our party's bivouac spell.  I've cast it a few other times since then and it's been extremely well-received by my numbers-heavy adventuring group.  The one thing I don't dig about it is the stupid 10 minute casting time.  Because in those 10 minutes ... in fairly dangerous and/or high-enemy-traffic territory ... bad shit can go down and put a stop to the casting process.  There's no reason why this 5th level spell shouldn't have a 1 standard action casting time.  Uncanny Forethought can obviously fix that, but I don't have that luxury.

Also, after a good talk with our DM, he's rather loathe to even think of disrupting our night's sleep in light of us investing a whopping 5th level spell as our overnight resting mechanism (again, we're 12th level).  He typically likes to throw in the occasional middle-of-the-night ambush.  Which he would have to do with some sort of really bizarre encounter such as earthgliding elementals, stone-cruising incorporeals or a superstar tracker (with nothing better to do) who Survival-rolled over 30.  But he figures if he going to do that, he'll wait until a 5th level spell slot doesn't mean as much to us as it does now.
