Wiz War
« on: November 21, 2012, 06:16:50 PM »
I bought Wiz War about 4 weeks ago, and I do have to say it is one of the better games I've played in a while.

Anyone have any good stories? One game was won by smacking someone back onto the attacker's home square, and then forcing them to drop the treasure they were carrying.

My group plays it on occasion.  With all of the expansions.  It's kind of a bad deal playing that way because the deck is so huge you can never get teh cards u need.

I don't have any expansions; are there any good ones?

Do you have the old version or the spiffy new ffg version?

I've got the FFG version; means I gotta wait for expansions, huh?

Prolly.  They may have combined all the cards from the old one who knows.

Apparently ffg made significant rules changes so might be whole new game from what I remember.

I've yet to play it with 4 people. It's a very different game with 2 people than it is with 3.

For example with 2 people you can pick up your treasure and run away with it... this forces the other wizard into Last Wizard Standing mode unless he can make you drop your treasure.... which is like 1/2 cards in the entire deck.

I won a game once in a couple turns, Turn 1, walk to enemies treasure, Turn 2, walk home and rotate board, Turn 3, stretch & pick up second treasure whilst standing on my home square... drop treasure... win.

Another fun session was me on 1hp, my opponent on 14hp... I walled myself in and he waited outside, I buffed with Big Man Form, Strength, Gemstone of Might and then ate the wall... my melee attack did 14 damage as I rolled a 4. Big man form (3) Gemstone of might (1-4) and Strength (x2) = 6 + 8. My opponent was werewolfing it and was a bit shocked.

the Threeplayer games are a bit different... as you can't protect both of your own treasures and both of your opponents from eachother whilst trying to steal them... it gets chaotic...and fun. Anything that buffs your movement speed in that game is awesome... mobility and counterspelling is key.

Played for the first time recently. 3 players, was a fun game. Ended when one player used a spell (heave ho) to throw a treasure onto his base square for a second point.

There were a couple of rules arguments about that play. First we weren't sure if he could get the treasure in the square at all. The spell has to target an empty square (there was another treasure in it), a wizard/creature, or an object (treasures are not objects.) He ended up targeting the wall next to the square.

The other issue was whether throwing the treasure into his base actually scored a point. The rules say you score by "dropping" a treasure in your base and it was debated whether throwing = dropping. In the end we let him have it since there wasn't anything clearly saying that throwing =/= dropping.
