Magic masks that look like a bird?
« on: April 14, 2014, 02:01:40 PM »
Just curious what magical items there are that are a mask that appears like a bird's head/face?

For story reasons I want someone to have a bird mask.  I know of the mask from the Regalia of the Phoenix in MIC.  Are there any others?

I'll look later tonight.  But I'm fairly certain that if there is anything like this, it's likely to be in one of the 3.5 Faerun sourcebooks.

Pathfinder has the Plague Bringer's mask, which looks like a medieval doctors mask. You know the one, it's got that giant nose that looks like a bird's bill.

I'm sure there are some masks like that out there, but if you're the DM you're, of course, free to create any item. If you're aiming for a specific mask, you could include the distinctive features of it, but applying the bird theme...
Example: The "Mask of Blood" (MIC p.115), appears to be streaming blood all the time. Turn the mask into a bloody skinned bird's face and it becomes a truly memorable item... (and your game goes up a notch in the rating system :tongue)

In a recent adventure my gaming group was playing, the PCs looted an amulet of natural armor +1. That amulet was crafted from the embalmed head of a bird.

The guy this is going on already has wings (a Concordant Killer, so no need for an item of magical flight), but for thematic reasons I specifically want him to have a bird mask on.  I can certainly make some new item, or revamp another item, but I just thought I'd see what is already published that I might be forgetting.

What about the Winged Mask, from Magic of Faerun?  13k gp, at-will Fly (as spell).
Hathran Mask of Nightseeing or Protection and Resistance (UE) both mention bird motifs.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.
