Another cleric necromancer build
« on: November 21, 2011, 11:27:18 AM »
Hey there everyone! This is my first post requesting build advice, although I've done a lot of reading on the BG boards before posting. I'm building a level 20 cleric character for a hypothetical epic Sigilian game my gaming group might play in the near future and would like some peer review. I'm aware that this character might never see play, but I'm really interested in the design itself. All WotC published 3.5 material except ToB is allowed for this homebrew-esque planescapes setting. Third party stuff isn't allowed, but Dragon magazine, homebrew stuff and setting specific material can be permitted with DM approval. Stuff from FR usually flies.

I want to build a necromancer, selling wondrous items in Sigil. I think the party as a whole will be a mercenary band of about 4-5 operating out of the same city. We all wear masks, use code names, keep our identities secret from the rest of the group, and we all have side projects going on. Mine is my item shop and my place as a high priest in Boccob's temple. The character, who can be called Mr. White, will have turned to undeath for RP reasons, and thus fallen to an evil alignment.

Things about the build that are set in stone:
- Cleric of Boccob. There's some transparency between Mystra and Boccob, so the infamous Initiate feat could fit into the build
- Feats: Item Familiar, Craft Wondrous, DMM: Persist, Planar Touchstone: Catalogues of Enlightenment, Silent Spell, Magical Training
- Spell-stitched undead, probably through Necropolitan (Being corpsecrafted would be subject to DM approval)
- Dweomerkeeper 10
- His main shtick will be Bestow Greater Curse (BoVD version)
- He won't really speak much, so some form of Telepathy would be brilliant
- For RP reasons related to Boccob's church, he won't use spells like dispel magic and its ilk or destroy magic items, which could be a major weakness

I'm thinking the build will be Cleric 5/Divine Oracle 4/Dweomerkeeper 1/Contemplative 1/Dweomerkeeper 9. Item Familiar will allow me to keep up with the party xp after losing xp to Necropolitanizing myself and crafting items.

What do the brilliant minds here think?

Edit: Forgot the bit about Telepathy

The standard "get yourself corpsecrafted by a dread necro with awesome corpsecrafter feats when you go necropolitan" thing applies, assuming your DM doesn't balk.  Given that he's apparently allowing item familiar, I don't see why he should.

A Helm of Telepathy will cover all your mind-speaking needs. Or a level in mind-bender, if you want to have a slightly less stealable source. And while you are getting telepathy, have you considered Mind Sight? Because a 100' sphere that detects any intelligent creature is hard to pass up.

I know he is opposed to dispelling, but would he consider casting Reaving Dispel (SpC)? Not sure how he'd get access to it, but it is an effective magic repurposing tool.

If you start as an undead, consider Lifesight. Good utility value right there.

Use Cloistered Cleric instead. It is is strictly superior to the normal version.
Pian unohtuu aika ja tila
Ja nahkapeitto ja syyllisyys
Ja rauenneilla kasvoilla
Viipyy muiston pysyvyys

I totally neglected to mention cloistered cleric. Sorry, I've been thinking about this build a while and I forgot to include some of the more obvious stuff in my OP. CC is a given for this build. Lifesight and mindsight would be glorious, but I might not have the feat space. Any other viable chOices for undead?
