Help with a Psionic Dragonfire Adept
« on: October 15, 2014, 07:55:10 PM »
I'm looking for a little assistance completing a build... for a character...

The character is mostly a Psionic Gish using psionics and invocations to aid the party primarily & a few self-buffing abilities to improve her natural weapons.

I've got a couple builds in mind but not really sure what route I should take... I do know there are a few specific powers I'd like to have on her though, each build has it's pros and cons and i'm not really sure which route I should look more dowards.

RHD:2/DFA:3/Fighter:2/PsyWarrior:4/X:9
or
RHD:2/DFA:3/Fighter:2/Psion:3/X:10
or
RHD:2/DFA:3/Fighter:2/Erudite:3/X:10

I intend to take a dual-casting prc such as Mind Mage or Cerebremancer to advance Psionics & Invocations for the remaining levels...

The character is meant to act as a front-line support style character, a few powers that will be on her list regardless of route taken are Claws of the Vampire, Empathic Transfer, & Hostile Empathic Transfer.

As a PsyWarrior she'd gain access to all of these powers through class levels alone, but her power points reserve would be extremely low, however she'll also have the HP and BAB to fight and survive in the front-line. Wis is a rather low stat for her though...
As a Psion she'll need to use Expanded Knowledge to acquire powers not in her selected Discipline or that are simply not available to the Psion class, her HP and BAB will suffer, but she'll have a large power point reserve. Int is one of her higher stats so this is another plus...
Erudite much like the Psion takes a hit on HP and BAB to get a larger power point reserve, however she can learn more powers through her class ability reducing feat costs, but the unique powers per day limit places a large restriction on how she can use her powers. Also a plus on for using Int.

I'm open to suggestions on a few other base psionic classes as well... her high stats are Int, Con, and Dex.

Feats are focused on her natural weapons primarily. Multiattack, Improved Multiattack, Rapidstrike, for example...  Practiced Manifester & Practiced Invoker have also been taken to help cover the lost Manifester & Invoker levels.

Is this an already existing character? What exactly is "set in stone" here? And what is the characters race and stats? The more details you can provide, the better, because right now... I'm looking at this and thinking it looks pretty bad... Gishes are already somewhat spread thin due to trying to basically fulfill two roles (frontline melee and caster). Adding in DFA and racial hit dice sounds like a recipe for failure.
I don't pee messages into the snow often , but when I do , it's in Cyrillic with Fake Viagra.  Stay frosty my friends.

The character is a Pseudodragon which is where the 2 RHD are from. Simi-existing character, its a familiar that I'm being allowed to add class levels to as we are about to enter epic levels when we resume the campaign. I have to take one of the leadership feats to do so, and I took Dragon Cohort to bypass her +3LA, allowing me to give her 13 class levels making her a 15th level cohort/familiar of an existing 17th level character. The character does not as of yet have any class levels.

Id like to keep the three initial levels of DFA even if i drop the dual progression prestige in favor better psionic gish options. 7th level invoker through use of practiced invoker is good enough for what I'm using it for anyway.

Stats are (with buffs from my spellthief/wizard/archivist)

Str:18 Dex:27 Con:28 Int:29 Wis:18 Cha:16

DFA:3 + Practiced Invoker gives me an Invoker level of 7 granting me a 4d6 Breath Weapon and my first 3 Invocations (Magic Insight, Endure Elements, Humanoid Shape) beyond that I don't really need to progress my Invocations any... more damage from my breath weapon would be nice and all but 4d6 should work out, I'll likely be using her natural weapons to deal most of her damage anyway.

Psionics as i mentioned are meant to be used to provide support for the party as well as buff her natural weapons.

Due to certain house rules she's getting a pretty nice bonus to her HP (1/2 of my Spellthief's HP (+95) added to her HP & her HP from Pseudodragon RHD was maximized (24+con)) And since I can share spell effects with her she'll gain benefit of Divine Power every time I use it so her BAB will boost to 1xLv when we enter combat... (I use Divine Power as one of my first actions in combat all the time, and so far no encounter has lasted long enough for me to cast it a second time)

If I drop the dual-casting prestige class idea and stick with just 7th level invoker.... I might go with a prC like Elocator... our party would benefit greatly from a character who can flank from multiple spaces simultaneously...
