A few specific Monk optimization questions
« on: October 31, 2014, 05:16:52 AM »
Assuming usage of the Unorthodox Flurry Feat, can you achieve the following?

1. Is there a way to get 1.5x your strength when using a two-handed weapon during Flurry? Are there any monk only options to increasing damage in such a way that does not incorporate Tome of Battle?

2. Is there any way to get your Monk unarmed damage to be applied or stack with a weapon you wield?

1,5 strength with flurry is doable with Pole fighter (dragon compendium), if you  use that instead of unorthodox flurry. Question 2: not that I know.

The only weapon I know of that uses the character's unarmed damage instead of the base weapon damage is the Scorpion Kama in the MiC page 201.

Pole Fighter is the feat Waazraath mentioned.

If weapon size rules can be worked with then a medium creature with a large kama treats it as a 1-handed weapon and can thus use it two-handed for 1.5x str to damage.  It's a -2 to attack though due to the improperly-sized weapon.

The Exotic Weapon Master's Uncanny Blow trick might also work in that case to grant 2x str to damage, but a DM can say that since a properly-sized kama is always a light weapon then it won't work that way.  If you want the kama to work then simply add the Sizing enhancement to it.

Monastic Training + Tashalatora with Soulknife along with the Monastic Blade & Flowing Blade feats... Monastic Blade will let you add your UAS damage to your Mind Blade, and Flowing Blade will let you use your Mind Blade in a Flurry of Blows...

Monastic Training & Tashalatora will let your effective monk level progress with levels of Soulknife giving your more UAS damage and improving your Flurry of Blows.
