Gish Seeking Access to Psychic Warrior Powers
« on: December 04, 2014, 01:01:56 PM »
I'm running an, currently 5th level, Assimar Gish (Ranger/Wilder/Slayer/Anarchic Initiate) - one of Carnivore's recommendations. Yes I realize not the most powerful build in the world but darn fun and I'm not looking to change builds but I am looking for some easy ways to gain access to some Psychic Warrior powers. All my feats are tied up with Expanded Knowledge for the best psion/discipline powers (Astral Construct, Schism, etc.) so that's out. I only have 4 levels in Wilder so ACF's Educated Wilder is out. DM won't likely go for any kind of research or psychic surgery shenanigans for extra powers known.

I do however have a high charisma and maxed out Use Psionic Device (UPD), albeit cross class. So now my questions are:

1) What's the best way to employ UPD to gain access to Psychic Warrior powers? Power Stones?

2) Any other options that I'm not thinking of?

Thanks,
Necro

Dorjes are cheaper "per charge" than power stones.

You might be able to combine UPD and these rules to use a power stone to access powers outside of your list. If the DM doesn't use the CPsi nerf, you can even use your own power points to manifest these to avoid flushing (using up) the stone.

A somewhat less controversial way would be to take leadership, and get a psiwarrior (or other) cohort that has the powers you want, then use Thieving Mindlink to use them.

Slightly more cheesy method: get a cohort with Expanded Knowledge, and use Feat Leech to "borrow" this feat. Since you're borrowing the feat, and not the power it is applied to, you're not necessarily bound to choose the same power to apply it to as the person you stole it from. So this lets you use any power at least 1 less than your max power level. Of course, the DM might not like/allow this.

Metaconcert is another potential way to use followers/cohorts to gain powers known.

Sure. I pulled out all the stops in this character (linked post and next), if you want to see how far this can be pushed. :P

Phaedrus has the good ones ...

Mantled Wilder from the same page
http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20070214a

with Substitute Powers from the Ardent list
http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20070629a

and extra rationale if needed via the Elemental Mantles just above it.
(Elemental mantles are available to DivMinds, Erudites, PsyWars etc)

pick Magic Mantle not for it's usual ++ :flutter  use,
rather because it has the fewest powers, therefore
the most fill ins.  Frees up feat slots too.

You still have lower feats available than PsyWar,
way lower powers'n'cheese available than Ardent.

Recharge would bump this into Tier 2 say around level 10.
(you know you wanna ... )

Warmind gives you access to Psychic Warrior powers, but almost certainly NOT worth it.
