There is only like a 1 in 128 chance that I can kill all 4 of them by rolling enough hit dice if I did my math correctly. Like I said, on average, two of them are effected. The two people most likely to get hit at this point, are a Dwarven ranger with a con of 20, and a Barbarian. They are sixth level, both of them have a plus two cloak of resistance. The dwarf through feats and other means is rocking a +13 to  his fort save. so he has to role 4 or better. That means he has an 85% chance of passing his save. I think the barbarian is rocking a plus +10. He needs to role a 7, So he has a 70% chance of winning.

Taking into account that both of them are basket weavers, the chances of me killing them are better if I throw a closet troll at them

As others have noted, it's a dick move.  I think everyone kind of knows this.  As Solo said "if you have to ask ..." then you know it's a problem. 

Save or Dies are dangerously close to dick moves out of the gate.  But, they are a part of the game.  A save or die that targets the entire group is much, much worse.  In general, any save or die should give you pause, a group-wide one should give you pause again.  This is particularly important to the extent the PCs have no way of responding to it.  That is, at lower levels such effects are particularly bad b/c PCs have few resources to avoid them (save rerolls, death wards, etc.) or mitigate them (revivify, resurrection, etc.). 

Further, if you've got a bunch of non-optimized PCs in the party -- and especially if some of the PCs haven't really dived into the metagame of iterative proofing and so forth -- then save or dies are more dickish. 

More generally, you should look at the relative firepower you as DM are putting out there on the battlefield.  Setting aside bonkers MM2 for a second, you're using a level of firepower the PCs can't get access to for another 6 or so levels.  That's not a good sign.  The odds that they'd have the tools to begin to adequately respond, and not just be nuked by it, are very slim.  There are tons of exceptions to that, but it's a good rule of thumb.

Oh, I'm not planning on doing it. I pretty much accepted it was a dick move before I even posted here. Generally speaking, if the thought of doing something makes me chuckle for longer than five minutes, I assume the general population will find it offensive. At this point I'm just trying to narrow down how much of a dick move it is. You know, on the scale of 1 to Fritz Zwicky

Speaking of that, what is up with certain monsters in other books missing things like oranization entries or knowledge DCs or environment information?
