Thomas the Tank Engine
« on: January 21, 2015, 04:56:00 PM »
Okay so the people I am DM'ing for are a bunch of smart alecks and one of their ideas of what they wanted to fight next was Thomas the Tank Engine (from the Thomas and Friends series).  (Using d20 system) All I have so far is "awakened construct," but the main problem is Thomas is limited to rails (he has come off rail and kept going at least once)(I have a son, I had to watch it with him).  Any ideas on how to make this?

Well that solves the problem with the tracks, but I have looked in ALL of my d20/D&D books and none of them have the stats for a steam locomotive.

Well, we can safely assume that it's going to have no ability to dodge, but at the same time, movement speed totally beyond compare. Plus, from sheer length, it'd work out to Colossal--so we're averaging something like 26 STR for a 1HD train. DR/Adamantine would seem appropriate, plus you might want to borrow Iron Golem's ability to ignore magic. Hell, that's a place to start for HD etc, maybe, if the PC's are levelled enough.

Some quick and dirty ideas for you

A magically treated tunnel that prevents dimensional travel, among other mean qualities, etc....

SA: Horn: As a swift action, Thomas may toot its horn.  Fort save vs. deafness. 30-60ft radius. 1 minute duration. 1d4 round recharge.
SA: Incessant Chatter: As a swift action, Thomas babbles incessantly, driving any older than childhood age to madness. Will save vs. madness/confusion. 30-60ft radius. 1 minute duration. 1d4 round recharge.
SA: Steam Shower: As a standard action, Thomas ejects a cone of steam causing xd6 damage. Reflex save. 1d4 round recharge.

I LOVE these ideas, do you have any more?

Not quite what I am looking for, but I can still use the idea in my campaign (the party is eventually going to a city of machines).

Distantly related, but I had made Planar Train and had to handle the fact that players would inevitably try to weaponize it.  I mean, beyond the weaponizing I did.  Basically, it's a trampler.

One of the ways that may make it easier is to think of it less as a creature and more as a sentient resetting trap, a slab of metal which runs over its opponents and uses the environment and switching tracks to its advantage.  Will your mere attacks of opportunity and readied actions be enough to break his hardness/DR before he has trampled you into the ground?

But whatever you do with it, there is one completely and absolutely vital thing this train must have.  Vulnerability to Suplex.  Make it happen.
Mudada.
