Fungal Creature Template?
« on: March 14, 2015, 06:14:19 PM »
I'm trying to find a good template for a fungus zombie creature (like the way ants get taken over by fungus spores). Is there one in any of WotCs published materials or Dragon Magazine I'm not remembering?

It's been answered already, but I can provide homebrew as well if you wish it.

It's likely not as good of an answer as the Yellow Musk Zombie template, but the Blightspawned template from Unapproachable East could work as well.  RAW it can only be applied to plants, animals, and beasts (a 3.0 type that got rolled into animals and magical beasts in 3.5), but there's no mechanical reason you couldn't apply it to other creature types as well.

It comes about as a result of an infection, and changes the base creature into a Plant that can also spread the infection.  The blightspawned creature must make a Fortitude save every month (DC 15, +1 per previous save) or die.  Upon death the base creature instead gains the Juju Zombie template, from the same book.

I think for simplicity sake I'm gonna stick with Yellow Musk since I'm running the session on friday and already statted some yellow musk goblins in. I'll definitely consider the other ones for future use and I'd be happy to look at any homebrews as well.

I'd really like to have something with some sort of infestation spore death throes.

I have the mushroom based Agarican, but there is also the less PC friendly Corpseblood Gel template for an oozey angle, and the diseases and monsters which come with them.
