I was trying to find a point buy build, for arguments sake, that is better off taking +1 to all your stats rather than the +1 to two stats plus a feat?

TIA.

Well, yeah. Kind of.

It depends what feat you'd pick as a variant for your build. How much use you make of it. And how much random stuff (or pointedly "screw you" stuff) your DM throws at you.

+1 to all stats can save a fair few points for an all-rounder, especially a skill-monkey build, where a heap of odds can be +1'd on a point buy. Even just as a save booster, when skills aren't essential, high level skills or not.

So, umm, yes?

How much more specific do you need the answer?

The idea came from a discussion at my gaming table. I didn't think a regular human could ever be as good as a variant human. I thought the feat would always be better.

We use point buy, so you have complete control over the value of each stat.

We didn't spend a lot of time discussing this, but I wanted to know what you guys thought.

I can definitely see where it would help a MAD build. Most of the time, you're mostly concerned with 3 stats, and some of the +1's are superfluous.

Until that extra 5% on a save, on a roll 3 times or boned, saves such boney buttocks.

It's really hard to say what anything is worth. Until it is.

Save IP Proof, particularly DMs targetting all save types, or thresholds like Devour Intellect. +1 means a lot more with flattened Atk/AC/Save ranges, less boost/buff opportunities
Skill Checks (Wis/Perception always important)
(Dex) Init/AC
(Str)DM enforcing encumbrance/weight
Other X->Y class feature
MAD
Multiclassing prereq
Feat prereq
Access to set stat to 19 magic items
Maximizing efficiency of Point Buy and roundoff, odd score 13 is the last 1:1 purchase. (PHB 13)

13 13 13 13 13 10
gets 14 14 14 14 14 11 and a later Resilient on the 11.
ends 20 14 14 14 14 12 and 1 feat.

So what would need this ??

14 13 13 13 13 8
gets 15 14 14 14 14 9 dump stat
put a +1 feat on something
ends 20 14 14 14 14 9 , and 1 or 2 more feats.

Some semi-gish with 2 of Str Int and/or Cha, might use this.

You always need constitution.
Dexterity is awesome in this edition for reasons.
20 to the main casting stat which is probably charisma.
Lowest goes to strength because gauntlets of ogre strength is uncommon and gives you a 19. Might do the same for intelligence.

Anyway, if you want to go something weird like rogue/paladin/cleric, plain human should be able to do the trick
